What do you expect from people who wear actual berets to their rallies.

I agree. This thread just ran out of yarn. Time to wind it up.
However, having read the post above, let's not swing the other way. I see nothing wrong with the berets.
Why on earth do the vituperative people keep on having to soil these threads?!

I am a member. I have big red numbers. I do not, however, own a blue beret other than the periodical by that name.

I am new to all of this. What is the difference between black and red numbers? Also; My wife and I were thinking of putting our names in red letters on the front of our Airstream. Would that piss someone off?

The WBCCI numbers are traditionally red. I don't think it would bother anybody if someone had big black numbers.
I have my family name on the propane tank cover and entry door in black letters, although I think it would look good in blue.

I seem to recall there is another organization or used to be that used blue numbers. I have no idea what the black numbers are suppose to signify. I have not worn a beret since I retired from the Military and have been to several official club events. In fact I think I have only seen a couple of people wearing them and I believe they held international level officer positions.

Depends on the numbers. If you're a computer geek, you'll get this:

It's just that there is no joke, merely an attempt to offend people. Therefore vituperation.
There are a lot of people who cannot handle jokes about silly skin pigmentation, or silly religions or silly speech impediments. There's just no need to bring the berets up. I'm not in WBCCI, and not too tempted to join if there really were threats against the misguided but seemingly harmless joker who started all of this off, but if some people wish to wear berets, let them do so.
Since you bring up the word, inscribed apparently on your own AS, I think this whole subject is about self-perceived elites. Only a fool thinks any better of himself because he is in a particular group, be they members of a club or computer geeks. Sometimes others may laugh at or resent these self-perceived elites, leading to jokes that go wrong.

My goodness what a thread. It's interesting to see what people think is a significant or important issue. These are dang campers people! Who cares what color numbers people feel compelled to put on their campers or where they put them. Talk about a tempest in a teapot...

Thanks for bashing an entire subculture. You missed the point entirely.

Maybe the guy with the painted numbers is a "performance artist" and we're the joke? 😳
Besides - isn't this how wars start?
Red numbers are best.
No, black numbers.
No, blue ones.
Numbers? We don't need no stinking numbers!

I think the performance artist is someone else, and he has provided us all with a couple of days of fun and giggles.
Thanks.

I think you need to take a deep breath hold then release slowly. This should help lower your blood pressure. I don't think it's worth getting all worked up about. If you happen to run into him then you can talk it over and deal with him...

Intriguing theory! 😃
I almost want to ask exactly what you think but I like the mystery quotient!
