My new 1999 25' Safari
Well after looking at several trailers, I was able to buy a 99 25' Safari in very good condition. They are very hard to find and it was really lucky this one became available.
I had a questions about the newer airstreams. Can you strip the clearcoat and polish them like the older ones or is the aluminum used on these a different type that won't polish?

I can't answer you about the polishing; however, I have just purchased a '77, 31ft Sovereign and wondered if you polished the one you have. You don't have any pictures on here, so I can't tell. I would be very interested in seeing what yours is like if you can post some pictures.

You can polish them but they won't come close to the shine that the older aluminum can buff up to. Take a look at the 34 ft. unit on this link. I know the owner and have seen it personally. It looks great but this isn't the mirror image that you can do with the older vintage trailers.

BTW, does your Safari have front stabilizer jacks? If I remember right those early "new model" Safari's only came with rear jacks and they looked a lot like the jacks on pop up campers. My 2001 Safari had 4 of those pop up style stabilizer jacks but in my opinion were useless. While up at Jackson Center I ran into a fellow who was having larger jacks placed front and back on his Safari.
After seeing his, I had mine pulled and replaced with the same bigger models. Airstream incorporated those bigger jacks on Safari's beginning in the 2002 model year.

Jack, I'll check the trailer when I pick it up Wednesday. Juel, I don't know why my profile says I have a 31' sovereign. I don't so I'll change it.

Congratulations on the new addition to the family. I, for one, am looking forward to the photos of your new A/S!

If they are the models with the round pads for the feet, the previous owner probably did the upgrade.

Edde, does your model still have the clearcoat? Mine has lost about 1/3 of it and I'm thinking of stripping it off and polishing it back up.

We've lost some on the top front... probably on it's trip to Alaska before we got it??? ha So are it polishes up really well so we haven't been too worried about the blemish. Let us know what you find out! Love our 25 foot... we travel 7-8 months of the year with our two "furkids" and it works fine! Of course, we also have a "no-see-um" proof screen house to extend our living room! ^_^
