Question SONOS Speakers on the Road

Have a Grand Tour on order and was wondering if anyone has any experience with adding Sonos speakers to your Interstate (or Airstream in general). Over the past few years I've installed Sonos everywhere in our home and would like to have as seamless as possible use on the road. Thx, Rick

Don't they need wifi and internet connectivity to work?

Yes Sonos needs WiFi. Great system have them all, over the house but not sure what the application would be for the airstream For my outdoor speaker I have a Marshall Bluetooth. Just like the amps of old it rock and rolls.

Sonos Speaker

We purchased the Sonos Move Speaker specifically for outside and sometimes inside use with the rig. Although the truth is that we use it most frequently on our patio @ home. Usually using the Sonos app via wifi on my cell phone or iPad, but you can also use any music app on any device via Bluetooth.
IMO absolutely the best quality sound I've ever heard out of a Bluetooth speaker...but for it's cost it should be.

Sonos makes nice products, but IMO, they're too expensive for the sound quality. I carry a smallish JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth speaker that's adequate for the music library on my phone. And I don't have any desire to blast my neighbors.
When listening critically, I like loud! Some nice Sony V-6 headphones fit the bill.

This is background.

Was there, went here - much better sound even at lower volume levels.

We use JBL Charge Bluetooth speakers. They sound great, are about the size of tall soda cans and fit in the cup holders. If you have two (or more) you can link them together to have your music playing both inside and out. We usually use Pandora unless there is no service - then we play whatever we have downloaded.

We got the Bose stand up speaker. I wish we would have gotten the smaller one to sit in the upper dash holders as the one we got is a little too big. I probably wouldn't do it again but just because my fiance' doesn't have the patience or want to learn the system. That's what he has me for!

I'd be curious of the Sonos system would work better. Wish I would have looked harder at it before we purchased the Bose speaker.

I had Plexi in '69 - it was used, so I don't know what year it was made. I wish I'd held on to it- it would be worth some real money.

I have this Sony.....Yes it is a boombox....I am an audiophile.....Lots of Mcintosh, Yamaha, etc. equipment over the years.....This is the best sounding boombox I have ever heard....has bluetooth, cd player, radio.....This is the kind of unit that you can put at your campsite, and hear quality music 100 ft away.....has built in subwoofer...I think it is about 20 watts rms.....Subwoofer can be turned off for listening to classical or voice.....No it is not Sonos Technology.....it also does not possess some of the problems of sonos technology ...I have a sonos system at my gf house and I love it, but that sound does not match this unit.

I have an Overlander Trailer......Really, it can just be stuck anywhere.....its just a little larger than an average boombox....YOu can just keep it in your TV or in a closet.....it is so worth it....I love quality sound....balanced and clear....you put some Chris Botti on, some good Merlot, and you will catch yourself just smiling at how good this thing sounds......

SONOS Speakers on the Road

Thanks for all the ideas and experiences. I hope I don’t regret this....but I stuck with the SONOS brand with the MOVE product. Starting too worry about storage space and was a bit pricey.....but what isn’t on an Interstate. Ultimately, wanted the utility to use both at home where is looks like other SONOS and elsewhere where it connects with Bluetooth.Click image for larger version
