Flat Tow 2019 Lincoln Nautilus

I'm taking delivery of a 2022 Airstream Interstate 24 GT this Wednesday 9/29/2021. I know it has a tow capacity of 5K. My wife's car is about 4700LBS. I would like to flat tow it but think I may be pushing the envelope especially since we travel from PGH to New Port Richey, FL back and forth which involves mountains. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

The "total load" will be:

1) The vehicle

2) The "attachment" (whatever that needs to be)

3) The shank and hitch portion of the attach

Is that over or under 5,000 pounds? you would have to do the math.

Nett up: The magic 5,000 pounds impacts the "payload" of the GT. With no reduction in payload the number is something ( ??? ) like 4,500.

So yes, right at the limit. Most internet references suggest that the Nautilus is not designed to be flat towed. It may depend a bit on exactly which sub-model you have.

Thanks Bob, yes my wife's car is one that can be flat towed. it's a 2.7 AWD. There are Nautilus models that cannot be flat towed, you're right. I was trying to avoid having to buy her another car for FL while we're there for the winter which is why I asked about flat towing.

One thing that folks have noticed over the years: Some "flat tow" vehicles do quite well when towed for crazy amounts of miles. Others seem to sprout a variety of odd issues after fairly modest amounts of towing. Sorting out which is which ..... yikes .... I have absolutely no idea which category the Nautilus falls into. I'd spend some time seeing what the various forums report ...
