I know there was something in the water when I was growing up because look at me and one of my neighbors who lives in DC now.

When is the tell-all, "What he Was Like at Five" being published?

If-by-whiskey argument

This is among the most amusing threads I’ve seen so far. But I don't see the reference to this argument on the subject of whether to continue prohibition of alcohol in Mississippi. But here it is, a speech on the topic purportedly made by young lawmaker Noah “Soggy” Sweat, Jr. in 1952:
My friends, I had not intended to discuss this controversial subject at this particular time. However, I want you to know that I do not shun controversy. On the contrary, I will take a stand on any issue at any time, regardless of how fraught with controversy it might be. You have asked me how I feel about whiskey. All right, here is how I feel about whiskey:
If when you say whiskey you mean the devil's brew, the poison scourge, the bloody monster, that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home, creates misery and poverty, yea, literally takes the bread from the mouths of little children; if you mean the evil drink that topples the Christian man and woman from the pinnacle of righteous, gracious living into the bottomless pit of degradation, and despair, and shame and helplessness, and hopelessness, then certainly I am against it.
But, if when you say whiskey you mean the oil of conversation, the philosophic wine, the ale that is consumed when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and laughter on their lips, and the warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas cheer; if you mean the stimulating drink that puts the spring in the old gentleman's step on a frosty, crispy morning; if you mean the drink which enables a man to magnify his joy, and his happiness, and to forget, if only for a little while, life's great tragedies, and heartaches, and sorrows; if you mean that drink, the sale of which pours into our treasuries untold millions of dollars, which are used to provide tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our deaf, our dumb, our pitiful aged and infirm; to build highways and hospitals and schools, then certainly I am for it.

This is my stand. I will not retreat from it. I will not compromise.
I concur.

Yes, maybe, and no! The same could be said of many things including those deemed controversial by some hypersensitive people,

Winter is coming and it is time to argue. I may have to argue with myself.

My Mastership has never been challenged. Perhaps a duel is required. I suggest planets at 100 parsecs. I forget how long a parsec is, but when you’re flinging planets, who cares?

One parsec is the equivalent of
3.26 light years...at that distance, accuracy of the ‘fling’ may be a bit touchy!

Accuracy is meaningless. Flinging itself is where the meaning is (look for Northern Exposure episode, gang). Planet flinging is more fun than flinging cows or pianos too.

At some college in the western part of our state, it is rumored that cow tipping is more common than flinging.

Don't tell anyone I mentioned this.

So, how much do you tip a cow: 15, 18, 20% What is a reasonable tip for a cow? Since this is the argument thread I'm obliged to disagree with any answer you give.

When you fling a cow, it is likely to tip, thus the cow tips you. Ask the herd beforehand which one tips the most.

Tipping cows is for sissies. Go slap the bull.
Cows roll at 20 degrees. If... on a level grade. There inlies the challenge. Will a cow sleep pointing uphill/downhill. Or sideways . I know the answer and you don t. Ha ha.
