Puzzler - what the heck is this?

As I was cleaning out our reciently aquired '72 Argosy I found ( see photos) this gizmo in one of the cabinets. Can anyone identify it?

My guess is it may be an older surge protector?

I'd like to see what others think ( or know) what it is.

I think it is an ironing board gadget that holds the iron cord at the top of the wire out of the way. The iron plugs into the base under the spring. You then plug this ironing gadget into the wall.

We have one of those, but it doesn't have the wire. Our's must be the 'wireless' model.

I think my wife found something very similar that a PO had left, but apparently it runs on batteries and seems to make her very, very happy!

We found one something like that, except it has a different plug that hooks to the back of our television. Brings in great High Definition reception.
