Posting reply to another post

I have just lost 3 attempts to post reply to another post. I also posted a jpg. What goes?? Can I not post images? It is very discouraging to spend the time and energy and loose all the info. The image was just 600kb and a jpg......
I also tried to just post the image and all was lost......... This is not good for me. You may notice my posts are long and complete...... Frank

102400 bytes or 102 kbytes is the limit on a Attached file. Your 600 kbyte file is just to big. I used to lose posts also in the early days of the Forums until I figured this out. It would be nice if the software would warn you if an attachment was to big, but it does not until you hit "Submit Reply". Then it "punishes" you by clearing the text box instead of returning you to the editor with the text intact to try again.

This is a limitation of the software. I use a Photo Editor to resize my pictures before I attach them.

There is an easy way to solve this problem.

I have gotten in the habbit of highlighting my post, right clicking, and clicking on "copy" before I hit the "Submit" button. If something goes wrong with the post, I can hit the back button, right click, and hit "paste" so that I don't have to rewrite the entire post.

You could also use a program such as "Word" to type you post and the copy and paste it.

It's a pretty straight forward process.

Thank you Pat. I have just tried and used the copy and paste trick. My wife suggested I write all post in word and also copy and paste. I foolishly thot that a 6ookb image would be OK. I'm now using images about 450. These images will work. I die loose several very informative posts. Maybe they were of no value....... Thanks again, Frank

Don't feel bad, Frank. I see this question all the time on a photography forum I help moderate. You'd think photographers would be able to figure it out on their own

As a courtesy to those of us on antiquated dialup connections, please keep your photos as small as posssible. Resize them to 640x480 or thereabouts, then save as a JPEG using level 5 compression as a starting point, and try to get the file down to 50kb to 60kb.

It is very frustrating trying to open a thread with a 100kb or larger file attached. It is even more frutrating when more than one person uploads a large file. I've had to wait five minutes for a single page to open at times.
