Monica Church Buys an Airstream

Surfing the internet today something popped up on the computer screen as an item I may be interested in seeing. It was a link to a YouTube video and the subject was buying a vintage Airstream. Hmmm... sounds interesting so I watched the video, initially with a bit of interest, and then with amazement!

Monica Church is apparently a relatively well known (not to me) video blogger that had some time on her hands during this pandemic lockdown so she decided to buy a gutted Airstream and make it the home (on wheels) she always wanted(?)! After watching the video about the Airstream I realize Monica has several YouTube channels, millions of "views" and just a bit on the high energy side. Hmmm, we'll see how the Airstream reno proceeds. At a minimum, it's interesting to see how others come to find themselves owning an Airstream. For $15k - $20k, or maybe a bit less, Monica could have purchased a functioning trailer and glamped it up to the max with new colors, fabrics and a few tweaks here and there.

Predictions/comments?

1) Reno completed in a matter of months and the trailer looks fabulous?

2) Reno falls by the wayside - way too much effort?

3) Other...

Here's a link to the YouTube video

I think that you will see a lot of her dad in future Reno vlogs.

Well, it looks like the door is on the wrong side of that Airstream.

Am I looking at the video correctly?

On edit:

Never mind, something just got turned around in the picture. As to your question, Lucius, I predict non-functional trailer at the end of this exercise. At least in the way we normal Airstreamers think of it.

Hopefully they read AIR forums and will ask for input.

Monica and her father (mostly her father) continue to work on the Airstream renovation. Learning via the sink or swim method, school of hard knocks. Isn't that the case with all of us?! They're up to about $13,000, including the original $6500 purchase price. Here's the latest video:

Episode 3 from Monica Church

I've included a link below to the 3rd episode in the Monica Church Buys An Airstream video blog. In this episode she compares the interior look/feel/vibe of a new Airstream compared to an older, remodeled trailer. She also talks a little bit about cost of buying new versus remodeling a vintage unit.

Still no mention of Air Forums in her videos.

on edit: she mentions that she hopes her "all in" final price is around $50,000. She referred to two online video bloggers that did all of their work for $50,000 so that's why she's targeting that number. However, she also notes that the remodeled vintage trailer she looked at was upwards of $150,000 but the work was done by a professional restorer.

The Next Installment of the Airstream Saga...

There is some progress on the trailer renovation. See below for the next installment. They've "hired" an interior designer. I wonder if the designer may be offering their services gratis in exchange for being featured on a YouTube channel that receives over 100,000 views.

Still no mention of Air Forums!

Referring to my original post... drum roll... The answer is number 2 - Monica throws in the towel and says purchasing the Airstream was the number 3 worst thing she bought in 2020!

Here's the YouTube video

I was wrong

I thought I didn't care less about anything more than the royal family and who is hosting jeopardy. Wrong.

I understand where you're coming from. In some ways it's obvious that I (nearly) couldn't have cared less - I didn't take time to look up the lack of progress on the trailer until this week (August 2021) and came to find she threw in the towel back in March 2021.

My reason for following along with the project was to see if my initial hunch would pan out... a giggly, self-indulgent young person acting on a whim bites off more than they can chew and finally realizes that renovating an Airstream is more difficult than it appears on the surface. It's unfortunate that so many trailers end of half-done (un-done) so anyone interested in pursuing the project is left with a literal basket case.

Another Airstream project bites the dust!

There are a LOT of tuber money earners....😳

Realize the Airstream is NOT the focus of the VIDs.
It's all about 'click bait' the more clicks the more $$$$ rolls in.
