Help shifting gears

After looking for a few months, I finally got my 74 Argosy motorhome. Drove it from NJ to FL. Now for the fun part. I've already gotten rid of the plastic toilet and put in a Sealand Traveler Lite. Replaced most of the weather stripping around the door and windows. Got new 3 way switches for the lights that would pop on when we hit a bump, replaced the dash indicator bulbs, so I would know when the turn signal or bright lights were on.
Replaced the Univolt with an Intelipower. BTW the Univolt almost melted an extension cord, it was drawing way too much current and not charging the batterys.
Repiped the water system with PEX, the seller we bought it from said it was winterized and he didn't want to dewinterize it because winter is comming, turns out it was like a sprinkler system, way too many splits to save.
There are many more things to do and I know the forum will be my most valuable resource, as it already has been. Thank you to all of the people who give their knowledge when someone needs a little help.

Does anyone know where to get a shift indicator wire, rod or whatever it is , so I can tell which gear I am in? I'm pretty sure it is standard Chevy stuff, but after scouring the internet I just can't seem to find what I need

That piece is cast on the shift collar. If the scutcheon that reads "PRND21" is still there, you can try using red fingernail polish to paint the piece that sticks up to be visible behind it.

Scott: I think your best bet is a junkyard for these parts. Call around, take a tool box. Make a list of what you need and be prepared to negotiate!! Folks on the forum may, if they have a junkyard nearby, be able to procure parts for you. Good Luck!

Just to clarify a little (the picture is awful), I have the "Park R N D D1 D2" piece, just not the part that starts where the column has a slot and extends to the back of the "Park R N D D1 D2" piece.

I was thinking about it being a cast piece, but then how would it move with the tilt steering wheel?

Maybe someone with an older Argosy can run out and take a look at your steering column to give me an idea. Thanks again

I have a 78 Argosy that I use for parts and I may have what you need. The Argosy is stored about an hour from where I live and I won't be able to find out for sure until next week. As soon as I find out I'll let you know.

It doesn't. That's why it's so far away from the window with the letters, so it doesn't interfere with the window. I have an older GM vehicle in my shop, with tilt wheel, I will try to take a photo of it, so we can compare them.

As long as I don't need them I'm sure we can work something out. Just let me know what you need and when I go to look at the shifter thingamajig I'll look at the other stuff too.

The indicator was broken off on Chummy when we bought it. Each time I would start off I put the selector all the way to the right and then counted up, 1 gear 2 gear, drive. When I redid the dash I tried to find the part to fix this with and was unable to locate anything even close. I ended up taking a brass 3" screw and driving it into the housing. Looks kind of screwy but it works.

Now that's what I call "Yankee ingenuity". We southerners would take a hammer and probably crack the whole steering column.
