Oil Pressure Gauge

I was wondering what the oil pressure gauge normally should read while accelerating and idling.

My gauge goes from 0 to 80, and when the engine is OFF, the handle is sitting on the center (40). When the engine is ON, idling normal, it sits on the same place (center). When I accelerate, it hops on center to zero. (jiggles between 40 to 0).

I was wondering if someone could help me out with this!

Sounds like the guage is bad.

Sounds like the sending unit could be your problem. If you have the same gages as my 84 MH, these guys may be able to help: Home Page

They have been able to supply a sender and a couple of gages that I needed.
