For those of you who have a Victron BMV installed in your 23D could you please post pics of your monitors mounted location. I’m looking to mount mine in our 2014 23D and want ideas.
I was going to use the factory prewire and I have the prewire prepped to use but.... where I want to mount the monitor in the wall by the tank monitor display there is a up and down aluminum rib. So I’m looking for an alternate location.
I’m thinking over the microwave or beside the living area TV.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I know the unit is Bluetooth and can be hidden but I want to be able to uses the head unit also.
I started a thread but figured as usual I would get more and better info here.
Thanks 23D army in advance for the help.

Ronnie, I had mine originally under the lounge. Never really used it but could access it if needed.

Just installed color CGX in vanity area, above furnace control. That might be a good spot with east access to wires.

I didn’t like over by the TV for two reasons. Distraction while watching TV and it was tricky where to install it. To use the microwave cabinet, it’s really high up.

What’s wrong with the premier? It will be off center if you install around the rib?

Rich,
I wanted to install in the left side of the inverter switch, between it and the window. Stud in the way. If I mount on the right side of the inverter switch it’s behind the stove cover when open.
Below the inverter switch between the inverter switch and wall Plug is an option but it’s tight.
Above the tank monitor is out because the prewired cat5 is to short.

Makes sense. Those ribs are only an inch think... could you go on the other side of rib?

If I go the the other side of the rib it will be half way behind the ocean air shade.
I think I’m just going to mount it in the dinette storage area, if I don’t get a better idea.

Above the television

YMMV but.....

I have a 712, no dongle, and didn't want to cut into the aluminum wall so mine is above the television. I don't find it distracting as it only backlights when I scroll thru the info it provides, otherwise I pretty much don't even see it. Can easily read it as I walk by without backlighting, if I do give it a glance. I'm not the tallest person in the room, can reach it just fine and had no problem installing it thru the microwave cabinet wall.

The hardest part of that was getting the wave back in, had to round up a helper. Had to lift it above my head, the cord is very short, I needed someone to hold the wave while plugging it in.

I found it to be kind of a logical place to do it since there is not much wall space in the floorplan and the wires from the rooftop panels drop thru same area so they all run up front to shunt and controller together.

For some reason the photo will not resize, sorry it's sideways.....

What I've been working on...

Being "non-boondockers' with only mild curiosity about all things solar, I have to find other - less interesting - ways to waste my time and money. My latest two-week project is shown in the photos below.

Following Airstream's design lead, I made a little "flip up/down" shelf; an extension to the tiny countertop... should prove useful.

I've got about $300 in this bugger, with half that being in a Corian "Bronzite" (color) remnant. This was my very first experience working with Corian and it was fairly easy. I did buy the special adhesive and dedicated applicator to allow me to make a double-thickness edge. I need to photograph all of the jigs and fixtures I had to make to do this job... wow, so darned many. It's pretty tricky to get everything lined up perfectly; and the first time, too... Yay! I just wish that the brackets had been powder coated black or bronze instead of white... oh well.

Overall, the shelf is about 16" X 19" quite a lot of real estate added!

I'm quite happy... Linda is super happy. I think it looks "better than factory."

Rob, well done. Looks great. My cheapo flying cloud trim only has laminate. We love that flip up shelf we built. So many uses and extra space.

Looks beautiful.

Thanks, guys. The three hundred smackers doesn't seem so bad when you realize Airstream wants $680 for one. That's plain NUTZ!

It really looks great.

Look at the cost as a) Saving money over the Airstream OEM version, and b) Learning a lot about how to work with Corian countertop material...and I bet a few new tools were in the mix as well!

When my DW comes up with a new, never done before-type project, she always budgets for a new tool or three to get it done, as part of the planning...and I take full advantage of that fact! It's the best way to get router bits, band saws, tile saws, all that big and little stuff...

I was lucky... the only 'tool' I had to buy was the fancy-schmancy adhesive mixing dispenser. I nearly never need a new tool, but this was the way to go. I'm wondering if I'll ever need it again. Well, I do have a couple of square feel of Corian left, maybe I can dream up another 'project.'

Re-wired all my plugs today. Got rid of the CRAP RV style plugs and put them all in a proper box. Now all are commercial grade TR plugs in a Carlon PVC box.
Clamped and pop riveted in place.
I’m glad to have this one done. Those connections in the factory plugs are real sketchy.

Selling it is the plan. But when I do it’s going to be RIGHT....
those plugs should have been in boxes all along.
The blade type connection in those RV Plugs are not good connections.
Snap on plastic back is all that is holding them in place.

The 23D thread

Nice job. The Carlon shallow boxes are available darn near anywhere. You just have handed me yet another “do it better” project. Sigh!

spare tire mount

We're not the only ones trying to beef up our campers. I saw this on RV.net and I made a mental note not to follow a trailer with a spare tire mounted like this:

Because it could be held onto the trailer by these:

Here's the link and "Bravo" to the guy for spotting the problem and fixing it.
