Has anyone with a 23D come up with a good place for a CPAP?
My soon to be bride uses one and as we plan on doing a 6 week honeymoon trip in ours I need to come up with a good spot.
Was thinking about a folding shelf at the foot of the bed near the A/C outlet. It would only need to be about 8 inches by 12.
Any thoughts?

Thanks!!

Also if you don't mind, was interested in what kind of generator you are now running on. Have been considering dual Honda 2000 and may start with one and add the second if its needed.
Install of micro air was not very hard. Lots of resoureses available and instructions in color. After install a lost the very noticeable boom sound when AC started up ( which is very nice). Honda 2000 starts us up just fine. Amps dropped by 70% as advertised

We have been full-timing in a 30 footer for over a year now, and we're ready to try something smaller. We just bought a 2007 23D. We haven't taken delivery yet, but we hope to next week.

We're unsure how it'll be living full-time in a 23 footer as our house. On paper, it looks like we can make it work well, but time will tell. Before we modify anything, we'll be taking it back east for a month to see what we love and what we don't. If we can live with it after that, the mods will begin.

This thread has been helpful. Our biggest concern is the 21 gal grey tank for boondocking. With our 30 footer we can go 2 weeks at a time without having to dump tanks. If there were a way to get 35-40 gal of grey, it'd be the ideal trailer for us. I'm thinking we can make 21 gal grey work though.

Anyway, lots of great info here. We've got a lot of mods in mind, but we'll save those 'till we know we can live in it all the time. Thanks for such a great thread!

Has anyone here removed their microwave and replaced their fridge with a 7 or 8 Cu ft unit? I think that'd be a great upgrade for us.

I put a bucket in my kitchen sink. For soapy water, tooth brush rinse, etc (typical grey). I then empty that bucket into the black tank as needed. I have bee able to manage the tanks this way as we don't use a lot for black.

I think this gives me extra capacity. I was even told another trick that I haven't tried.

Plug shower drain. Capture grey shower water in shower pan. When down use one of those plastic "gas can" pumps to pump into black tank.

Example siphon pump:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0181...BqL&ref=plSrch

Anyway, we use our blank tank as extra gray for boondocking as needed. It's worked so far.

That's a good tip! What's the longest you've had it out boondocking?

Thanks, Rob. I am absolutely in no hurry, the pantry has been that way for a while now, possibly when we bought it from the PO, just never had it strike the left side before. It takes off the laminate so I've got some tape over it at the moment.

It's in storage but I'm taking it out to see the eclipse in a couple of weeks. My brother is going with me and he knows about woodworking. I figure if I can get the thing out, he can take a look at it. If he needs to take it home to GA to work on it then I can let him have it.

If you can tell me what to look for, I'm pretty handy with taking things apart and usually back together again. I just need an idea of the starting point. As I recall, there are 2 sets of roller brackets on each side. They fully extend to let the pantry out. There must be a "stop" on the tracks, either a screw or other device, but I just don't see it.

Again, I'm not in any hurry, it's just one of those things on my list.

My single one complaint on the 23D is the grey water tank. While you tips are certainly easy, I end up dumping the grey into a blue boy and dumping that. As long as you're not miles from a dump station that works. So far we've not been too far from one, so it's a solution, but I actually like using the black via buckets, etc. to help manage as well. -- Thanks.

We have been able to boondock for 5 days ,with three people, being mostly limited by the small waste tanks. My new strategy has been to install a natures head composting toilet and combine the grey and black tank. End of this month will be heading north to dry camp. I am concerned that the black tank seems to sit higher than the grey.I am not sure how much of the black tank's capacity will be useful. In any case, I expect to flush less fresh water down the drain.

I was wondering if combining tanks would work, seeing that the black sits so much higher. Let us know how it goes!

If the tanks were interconnected, (water seeks to be level) and since the gray tank is under the black tank, there is an issue to consider. Unless the shower drain is plugged solid, the step into the shower has to be at the same level a the bottom seal on the toilet and the shower floor will be come the black lagoon....

The two tanks have to be at the same elevation in the frame to be interconnected to form a single storage system. And the interconnect has to be large enough to allow the "solids" to pass freely from one tank to the other.

I wonder if there's a creatove way to get a 30-40 gal grey tank in there. I wonder if the straps would be strong enough to hold that much weight. Maybe with a 3" lift, you could fit a custom tank that's 3" deeper. I know the 25ss is quite similar in layout to the 23d (aside from being 3 feet longer and 6" narrower). The 25ss has a 39 gal grey. If I could find a creative way to get 39 gal of grey, I'm confident I could stay out boondocking for 2 weeks at a time.

I realize it's unorthodox, but I'll be researching my options heavily. I'll also be looking for a way to increase ground clearance at the tank dump valved so the plumbing doesn't hang down so low.

If you figure this out, let us know. I may take mine to an aftermarket company, like timeless in Denver to see what they say. I bet if you removed the black tank, you could get a much bigger gray.

With a full grey tank, and an empty black tank, I'm expecting to get about 2 to 3 gallons of increased grey water capacity when allowed to equalize. This is due to the large diameter plumbing that sits underneath the black tank. In the same way it takes multiple uses of the rv toilet before the black tank registers any accumulation on the monitor, there is a significant volume in plumbing below the black tank. For shrewd users of their tank, this could add another day or two of dry camping. In addition, if one were motivated, you could shuttle the grey water inside and dump it directly into the black tank. This could be done with a standard toilet or composting toilet. Granted, not as elegant as a single large tank but workable for those so motivated.

As of now, getting closer to becoming the owner of a 2007 23 Safari (D?). Will be looking to upgrade the wheels and tires to 15inch (do 16's work or even make sense? I plan to travel some dirt roads, so looking to get as much height as I can and will eventually get a lift kit).

But my main question is, was reading through a thread on the proper place to jack up a trailer, but saw no reference to a 23D and figured it would be the same as most others, ie on the frame between the tires ?

Will most likely need a new bottle jack since the one I have is pretty big and overkill, but I am not sure what the minimum height needs to be to get the jack under the frame, or the max height it needs to get to, in order to remove the 14in and get 15in ones on.
If anyone is familiar with those specs, would appreciate your insights so I can select the right jack.
I suspect I could always roll it up on leveler blocks to get some extra clearance at the min height?

FB here and newer, but similar. No one ever has said 16s would fit. Used blocks and changed one at a time. Figured it was good practice for the road. Did pick up a small bottle from HF. Too cheap not to have. Investigate Centramatics. Good luck with the coach upgrades. Pat

. . .
Most Airstreams have designated jacking points under the frame aft of the tires, and the locations are clearly labeled. Most standard hydraulic bottle jacks will work at these locations, for either 15" or 16" wheels, because you have plenty of vertical clearance, and can use extra wood scraps as a base for the jack, if needed.

The reference you saw was probably about putting an AS up on jack stands (not adjustable jacks) to take weight off the tires for longer term storage. For that use, many folks recommend the location between the tires, under the vertical steel plate where the axle assemblies attach.

Good luck with your search!

Peter

Thanks Pat and pretty much my thoughts and logic. The smaller jacks are cheap and I will have some wood blocks with me.

I suspect I could also use the lego like levelling blocks for lift?.

Peter, that was the thread, but there was also a link in that to some thoughts and comments that Andy shared regarding the strength of the beam/frame between the tires. Actually I suspect if you took the AS advice literally with jacking points behind the tire, then behind the front would indicate a jacking point (between the tires?).
Only concern that was mentioned to me was in the odd event that you were to hit something significant and flatten both tires at once, the bottle jack becomes critical, but then again I would only have one spare, but the jack would enable me to lift it up and put at least the one spare on.

The jacking points work fine.
