1985 and on floor plans

I have been toying with the idea of going to a 1985-86 25' Airstream sometime in the next year. I've been happy with my 31' 1977 Excella 500 with all functioning appliances but have found that the mid twin bed is a little short for me at 6' and shrinking (me not the bed). It seems like the rear double or twin beds, mid (side) bath would be just the ticket for my needs since it separates the bedroom from the bath and kitchen area and allows for a little more maneuverability getting into and out of the driveway. OK, the wife is also not happy with 31' of trailer taking up so much of the back of the driveway. I refuse to pay to keep it stored somewhere. Did Airstream make anything in the 23' or 24' floorplan similiar to what I am describing above or does it look like the 25' is it?

AS TT's are really not designed for tall people. You can compromise by sleeping on the dinette sofa and sticking your feet out the open door.
This method does not apply when camping in bear territory, in which case you might want to sleep with your knees poking your chin.

1985 was the first year the 25' was available in a rear bedroom, side bath floorplan. There were three choices available: twins, full island, and full corner. The last is extremely rare, and the floorplan can be seen by clicking on "Photos" below.

Subject to correction, the rear twins are somewhat longer than a standard mattress and should easily accomodate someone who is 6'. The island full bed is the length of a standard matress, or close to it, and is open at the foot, so you don't bump your toes up against anything if you stretch out. The corner bed has ("had", in my case) a credenza across the head of the bed and the bulkhead for the shower on the other. A previous owner removed the more-or-less useless credenza to allow (limited) floor acess to the corner to facilitate making the bed, and to allow room to stretch out. I like it so well that when I rebuilt the bedroom cabinets I also left out the credenza.

I have followed your posts and seen the photos of your trailer. I'm envious? I like the layout of the 25' so much that I would take any of the three bedroom designs that might come open to me. I guess nothing smaller would fit what I want but thought something might be available. Thanks.

I have an 85 25 ft with the rear corner bed. At 6' 4", I was concerned before getting the trailer about the bed length. Turns out that the corner bed works just fine for me. The aisle side of the bed extends beyond the bathroom wall and that gives me the ability to hang my feet over the end of the bed.

Hi Alan,

It is great to know SOMEBODY out there has a coach like mine! They are far from common.

We sleep the other way around, so the advantage of the exposed corner of the bed had not occured to me. Just so no one gets confused, however, I am thinking it must only be six to eight inches or so??? Mine is 30 miles away at the farm or I'd go measure.

I would guess the bed extends about 8 inches beyond the bathroom wall (too far to the trailer storage to go measure). It's more than enough to be comfortable for me.
