Day 8 of the 2010 trip

Moving day. Today we packed up and drove 30 miles from Gros Ventre (Pronounced “Grow Vont”) to Colter Bay Campground, $20 a night for no hookups. It would be a great place IF the campsites weren’t parking spots parallel to the loop. Because of our length, we were placed in loop K with the huge motorhomes and 5th wheels. Looking out the left side windows we can wave to the (few) vehicles as they pass 6 feet away. But looking out the right side…all we see is a spruce forest. We found out if we close the left side windows and curtains…life is good. Is the Ostrich the animal the sticks its head in the ground to ignore stuff? Well that’s how we adapted to the campsite, just ignore the road.
Wildlife seem to be used to the human presence, a deer was eating grass in the campsite across the road.
At the end of the loop is a short trail through the aromatic forest to the rocky shore of Jackson Lake. The photos don’t capture the actual look across the clear water and up the slopes of the Tetons.
We chilled out at the camper for the afternoon, ran the generator for a couple of hours charging the batteries from 89% to 100%. We actually have a clear shot of the sky and got DirecTV up and going. After shutting down the generator we turned on the inverter to watch a 2 hour DVD on the big television and at bedtime the batteries are still at 91%
Other items of note…one of the Airstreams in Gros Ventre was none other than the www.longlonghoneymoon.com folks. We didn’t have a chance to meet, it was kinda early when we pulled out and they weren’t outside yet. We also saw several ‘Streams on the road, waves included. A vintage single axle Airstream was spotted in the visitor center parking area.
