Located half way between Deming and Silver City in southwest New Mexico, this little NM State Park is a real treasure waiting to be be discovered by anyone seeking clear, desert skies and zero light and noise pollution.
Formed of volcanic ash 30 million years ago and sculpted by wind and water into rows of monolithic blocks, City of Rocks State Park takes its name from these incredible rock formations. Cactus gardens and hiking trails add to this unique destination.
What a wonderful place just 26 miles north of I-10, but it could just as well be 500 miles for the serenity and beauty you will find.
There a many developed camping sites scattered thoughout the City of Rocks, but water and electric hookups are only available in the tiny RV park near the Park Headquarters. There are no sewer hook-ups and no dump station, so arrive with your holding tanks empty and take your showers at the very nice facilities provided.

We enjoyed our 2-night stay at City of Rocks in May08...very interesting place...watch the seasons...it can be hot in the late spring and summer...but it's also less crowded then...you can reserve some sites...both electric & water and dry camping...
