We met two brothers from Georgia...twins...retired FBI--they were interesting to talk to. There are some really interesting people who will end up in the waiting room with you. Take the factory tour...it was fun. And anything you may want to purchase from AS...is in that AS shop.
Hope you have a good time/trip.

Welllll....I had a check list of things that needed to be fixed at the AS factory. Let me just say...when they "fix" those things...YOU check them our before you leave. Example : the outside shower faucet was replaced by AS. I did not check it. When we tried to use it in the Florida Keys, it leaked like crazy. It needs a new O-ring...and one that seems impossible to find. Now, if AS replaced that part, one would think they would check to see if it leaked. They did not--and now it is my problem in Florida. There wer other issues too.
There is basically nothing around the factory...except a lot of very nice people...one kinda cool hardware store and a great kinda fancy restuarant that was very good. AS does have wi-fi...so bring some stuff to do.

Yikes, well what are you going to call that one? "remember when I went to get milk at Publix? Ugh. Sorry to hear about your hitch bump. I did what I can to my "mark" with suction cups, hot glue pullers and prayer! It looks as if I will be heading to Ohio though. Yes, my previous owner left some scratches and a bumper that is well, different. I can only say it is mine. I keep upgrading things on it and would probably not change coaches to start anew. Things are just so expensive. The Ohio trip will be a lot for sure. Is there anything else that is good to have them do while visiting the mothership that you might recommend?

Oh...just found this post. Glad you had a good trip...sorry you backed into a board. I managed to back my truck with the huge hitch into the side of our AS...somehow I got to the point of not worrying about those bumps, bruises, scrapes...there are just too many of them and, the good part is, I can always say things like, "Remember when I scraped along those spruce trees in northern Arizona?
I finally got my son to wash/wax the AS...I did this by telling him he would inherit the AS someday--funny how that worked!
Hope your day goes well!

Hey there!
Hope all is well with you. We just returned from a 1600 mile trip. I have to share that I backed my AS into a board in the storage facility that was placed on top of a shelf (it is shared) and dented in the side corner! Ugh. looked awful. I suction cupped out what I could. So, now I will be going to Ohio but have to wait until March '14. I should also consider some corrosion work like you did. I am not sure what they could do for me though. My poor thing is starting to look rough especially with that crater dent!. A friend told me to make it a smiley face (the crease has a mouth shape) and put have a nice day in marker! Geez.

Great. I would like to someday go to the AS factory. We will see. The belt line rail and insert really made my AS look better. I started the process of washing polishing and waxing as per your advice. I am finding some dents that I did not know where even there. Nothing like hail dents but just a random dent here and there that I assume the dirty exterior kept from "showing through". I am sure this is the first cleaning this baby has had since new or at least in a very long time.

Well...after years of trying to get the corrosion repaired locally, I drove from Vero Beach, FL up to the AS factory in Ohio. They were really nice, had us in and out in two days...repaired the corrosion (yes, I paid for the labor and for some of the parts...AS did comp a few items...very nice of them). It was worth it.

No, west coast - Fort Myers.

The guys at the AS factory told me to wash frequently, wax every 6 months. Hopefully that will stop any further corrosion. Do you live in Palm Beach?

Thanks. Yes, since the posting in March I completed the work myself. I spoke with Airstream who described the work to me. Their first suggestion was to lightly sand areas and utilized the Boeing spray then seal it with some acrylic spray paint. I had so much heavy corrosion that I had to be more aggressive. I used a wheel sander and got the corrosion off using the boeing spray in three applications and going over and over the area. Then I used a fusion clear spray paint in three coats followed by three coats of a rustoleum sealer primer. Then I covered the mid section with the aluminum trim and insert. It looks great. I then sealed the top with acryl-r seam sealant. That made it less attractive but at least it is sealed at the top of the trim. It looks like a silver caulk (yuck) but hey, it serves a purpose and it not noticeable from a distance.
