Maybe a dumb thought, but if you switch sides, would it matter as much?
Rae

Im not sure what your question is?

The door will stay on the curb side. It will be relocated to the back of the trailer, just forward of the rear endcap. I plan to rehinge the door so it swings toward the front of the trailer .

That might be great for selling to UK.

I'd be leary of using a door on the road-side - especially when you pull over on the shoulder for whatever reason.

Looking really good, Brad! Hard to do better than a 13 panel '57, but I am biased.

I'm sure you know Frank's Trailer Works Blog but just in case you don't, he's making a double door out of a single door and there are likely some good ideas there for you.

cheers,
steve

Thanks Steve, I do look at Franks blog from time to time. And yes there are many good ideas there. I like the framework he built to lift the shell. It gives me ideas.

I spent another day at the trailer today. Two more segments went on the endcap and I started removing the last of the damaged metal on the road side. Put a couple pieces on and take a couple off. I look forward to not taking anymore panels off.

I looked at the entry door today. After looking at it Im less concerned about moving it. Maybe Ill be able to get to it in a couple of weeks

I see much bucking in my weekend future! Brad's metal work is a work of art. Wish I could take some time off work to buck, but alas, this cannot be done. See you on Saturday Brad!

Looking good, Brad. You're making excellent progress. There's something exhilarating about bucking rivets. It's an Airstream thing.

My front endcap was in pieces when I got the trailer. I will end up making an aluminum interior endcap as well. Working with the segments has been challenging. It sure is great to be this far along in the project. When I finish the front I will start on the rear endcap. It too was hit by a tree.

The photos are of yesterdays progress

Were you involved in training skin replacement at the Vintage Resto. Rally in Alburqurque in April '09?

Yes, and I will be doing it again this year, although I plan on doing a poll to see what the attendees want to see this year and plan my presentation around the requests, along with the standard riveting classes etc. Uwe and I changed both lower side skins that year at the rally.

Yes, and on the lower skins, I helped (well, actually learned more than helped). BradS has you to partially thank for the progress he is making on "Holly". After attending the Rally, I found myself saying "I can do that!". Even though it has been 1 1/2 years since the '09 Resto Rally, the buck riveting training came to play in our work on his "Holly" and my "May". He keeps blaming me for getting him in to this restoration thing, so now he can partially blame you for being a good trainer. I can't say that our bucking looks as good as yours, but it does look pretty darned good. More practice on Saturday.

Today I cut and fit the last piece on the road side. The damage to the endcap went back 4 ribs. Now all the rippled, stretched and torn aluminum is gone!

I took the last three segments into the metal shop today. I cut out an oversized blank, the shop puts on the edge detail, and I cut, fit, curse, clamp and alter it to be part of my first endcap. There are only 2 original segments left.

Tim, a great friend indeed, wants to buck more rivets on Saturday and I refuse to let him down. Im looking forward to recovering many clecos. The trailer is starting to look like a pin cushion

Thanks alot.

Ive told Tim this vintage trailer was so much easier when I just talked about it. I would tell anyone what a nice trailer it would be. How big, how small, whatever fit the mood. It was great, perfect lust, no pain

We went to look at an old trailer. Tim said, just look at it. It turns out Im lucky enough to be spending about 40 hours a week working on it

Thank you every one, its because of you!

Today Tim and I bucked some rivets. By the time he got to the shop in the morning I was set up and ready to go. The morning went great and we got a lot of work done.

We stopped for lunch and while we were out we got a call from Doug. Doug is the one who I bought the Overlander (Holly) from. He was on his way out to see us. I think he wanted to make sure we are really working on the trailer not just talking about it.

We had a wonderful visit and discussed some of what he is doing to his trailer , a 1954 Crusier, as well as showing him what we have been doing. I enjoy talking to others and hearing about what they are doing. There are so many good ideas out there.

All in all it was another great day. Its nice to have more riveting done and the time spent with friends is always enjoyed.

Yesterday, Monday , Tim let me know he would be stopping by the shop after work. Tim's help has made this project possible. Regardless of how insane his work life or his personal life gets, he is always available to worship aluminum.
Thank you Tim!!!!!!!!

Tim and I bucked the last of the rivets I had ready! The forest of clecos was gone!

I also got a call from the sheet metal place. My segments were ready. Today a small forest of clecos reappeared on the nose of the trailer. The front endcap is finally back together. One more round of bucking rivets and than I will start the back endcap. Im only replacing 6 segments on that one.

Wow Brad, you have just about replaced the entire front end cap, and it looks great! Glad too see we'll have some rivets to buck. Not sure if I can break away before Saturday, but it looks like we have a good day of work planned. I am looking forward to the back end cap repair next. "Holly" will soon be fully enclosed again!
