1958 Overlander is home

Brought the 58 home today. Now we need to decide what we are going to do with her. Looks good, but don't know if we are up to this much restoration.

Looks great behind your stepside Tundra! How did it tow compared to your other unit? I think it is a little lighter. Love the pink heater cover. You can sand and refinish the wood, maybe put a new floor down and a little paint and it will really look alot nicer. Whats the rush, you have a great looking "painted" Airstream for camping. Best of luck with the new unit!!!

This trailer pulled like a dream. What a neat old girl she is. Bob wants to just put it on ebay and see if someone wants to take on this job. He's going out of town and may not be able to do much with it for a long while. Sort of sad.

Talking

C'mon Juel,
You know you want to do it, you've got time, make time. Just think how much fun it would be to pick out all the new stuff and customize it to your perfection. You know you've got everybody here to help c'mon.

Becky

I'm just dying to get that wee-wind here under the classifieds.

Well, we had a horrible storm here last night and Bob came in this morning to tell me "Big Bertha" didn't leak at all. Think maybe he's getting a little soft. Now he's talking about maybe putting her down at the lake. Wish we did have more time. I guess she's made it almost 50 years, she could wait a little longer for a "makeover". Judy

Judy,

My wife says that all the time. Think about your legacy. Buy a pink flamingo or two and think about it. You may sell the Argosy and do a UWE. Think of the fun you could have!
Congratulations on the acquisition.

Congrats Juel! I am picking up my '58 Overlander in 11 days! My boyfriend keeps teasing me by asking if I have a little calander that I am ticking off the days on. The interior and exterior of mine looks really good but I have no clue if any of the systems work or not. This is my first foray into the Airstream world and I sure did jump in with both feet! Have you had a chance to figure out what works and what doesnt at this point?

Well, no I haven't. Beautiful weather here today and I've been cleaning out my pond and giving my two Poms their Summer do. I know how you feel though. I just look at her and think, "what have I done?". One minute I want to get right on it, the next I think I'll just put it on ebay and sell it. It's sure looks like a monumental task. You are a brave soul to try it. Please keep in touch and send pictures to me when you get it home. Just email me. The systems on this 58 are supposed to work. But you know there aren't many systems on these. No 12v at all. No gray water, although mine does have the optional black water tank. Is yours the dual axels?

Juel, mine does have dual axles. I have a couple of pics loaded up in my profile if you want to have a look. I think the first thing I am going to do is take that horrible swamp cooler off! I would like to take it off before I tow it home from New Mexico but I dont know if that will be possible.

This trailer still has the old split rim wheels. Can someone tell me what I need as a replacement and where I might find them. I know about the tire replacement, it's just the wheels I'm interested in. Also I am looking for the cranks for the windows. Anyone who can give me a source for some really old parts, please let me know.

Tires

My 58 Sovereign of the Road has 14.5 inch tires and wheels on it. Some trailers had that size, as I have a friend that has 14.5s too on his 58, that is registered as a 59.

I need those parts too....may the faster mouse win!

If you can post a photo of the window cranks, I may be able to steer you in the direction of a source.

Found the wheels I need at a place that sells car haulers. Mine are 15inch. Can get them for $45.00 each in aluminum. They are awsome looking. Haven't had too much luck with the window cranks yet, but emailed Blaine Windows with pictures of what I need.
