'54, '55 Flying Clouds

Can anyone give me a place to find out how many of these were built and the vin3 ranges?
Thanks Dale

This might help

Welcome to the forums. I see your in Placerville. To bad you didn't find us earlier. We just a had a great Rally at Casini Ranch located near Duncan Mill this past weekend. I do believe we had over 35 trailers. Maybe next year.

Here is a thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f325...try-27766.html that Captain Jones started a while ago. If you scan through it you will find a list of serial numbers. If not you probably can send Captain Jones a PM with your question.

Good luck,

The other place is the photo archives on RJ Dial's site Vintage Airstream Home.

RJ has put together the most informative archives when it comes to vintage Airstreams. Check it out here.

The range for VINs is shown here.

So, why are you asking?

I was told mine was a 54 but I see now it is a 55 the vin# is 7767. The registration says first sold in 54. Im looking for a another to restore or for parts and want the same one. I think they are perfect. Thanks for the help.

If your registration says 54 I would say it is right. Record keeping was not a high priority at that time. The first 55 I have been able to find that is still around is 7776. Yours could have been one of the very last of 54.

I would say it's an early '55 model that was sold (and thus registered) in late '54. They are just like car models - the new models came out in the middle of the year, not January 1st following a calendar year.

We have the opposite problem with our '56 Safari - it's clearly a '56 because they didn't make the Safari model floor plan in '57 but our original registration states it is a '57. Our VIN number is late in the pack (we're O-6424 of O-6300 thru 6443)...so it was sold & registered in '57 even though it is a '56 model.

I agreed, record keeping was not a high priority back in the day...
