I always keep an extra set of keys to trailer in the glove compartment of my tow vehicle. I can unlock the tow vehicle with a 5 digit button code on driver's side door. In case the code should not work for some reason, I keep a key to the tow vehicle in a magnetic key box stuck to underside of vehicle.

Could anyone comment on the size? Attached is a similar if not the same hook from McMasterCarr. Thanks.

I have similar smaller hooks there, and hang a plastic shopping bag there for the daily throw out trash.

Locking yourself out is another question,
I can answer that question for you and those above.
Following a suggestion from a poster last year, I installed a simple door hook to hold the lock pin back. see attached.

With the hook engaged, it's not possible to lock the upper little lock, until hook is disengaged.

Like 'Isbrodsky', I use Command strips in many places in the trailer.
They are 'The Cat's Meow' and easily removed and re-positioned if req'd.

By am Hooks

60s and 70s used the best looking hooks I have seen called Byam hooks by AS community. Also called strop hooks. Have seen them at sailboat supplies.

What keeps the hook from jumping off when you close the door? I have to slam my door for it to close completely because it has new seals and I suspect that the hook would come unhooked.

I just want to give you, (and others), a heads up, I don't believe these forums are private. If I google information on an Airstream subject I am given links to many threads here. They cannot comment without joining, but I believe they CAN read anything they like.

It would be safer if we didn't tell where things like keys or valuables are hidden. Perhaps a moderator can let people edit these bits of information out?

Also, found this size screw to be the best fit. Any larger head will not sit flush.

The hook is a pretty snug fit on the lock pin, and I too have to slam my door.
It hasn't jumped off yet; but thanks for the 'heads-up'.
I'll keep an eye on it.
And Naturally, I have a spare key somewhere else.

We like and use the hooks by the door ... so well that we bought more and have them all over the AS. We opted for the larger hooks that came in the bathroom for the other areas. The door hooks are bendable to suit whatever size you need.

Folding Hooks

I installed IKEA Bjarnum folding hooks throughout the coach including near the front door for dog leashes, head lamps, coats, towels and other clothing. The TV keys are hidden in the coach and the trainer keys are locked in the TV (TV has door access buttons). Even my key holder at home is on the back of a cabinet door for security and ascetics purposes. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60152590/
