Is the Eddie Bauer upgrade cost worth it?

Hi folks,

We will be ordering a 27 FB unit after the first of the year and we are wondering if the cost of upgrading to the EB model is justified?

The primary feature which attracts us to the EB model is the opening rear hatch. We don't plan to haul anything which would benefit from the hatch, but think that it might be nice to leave the hatch open sometimes when we are in the trailer to bring in more fresh air and light.

Do any of you use your hatch like that and is it really as nice as we think it is?

It makes quite a versatile space, different ways to use it. I would expand my needs and criteria for the best possible trailer to match my lifestyle.

We have an SOB with a screen wall in the back and use it constantly in the summer at the lake. A great place for us to sit and have coffee or some nights we just sleep with the screen down.

We are getting a new FC 25 Rear twins and when I showed my wife the EB she got all excited. After looking at the upholstery in the rear section she wasn't impressed so it's back to the FC 25 with Ultra Leather.

I would like to see the EB concept expanded to a smaller trailer such as the 23 footer.

They love their Eddie Bauer.....they open up the rear and have the air and view with the screen down.....they are very happy with it.....They did modify the dinette a bit....it seems as though it was too high and a bit wobbly but fixable. They also ordered an awning for the back.....p

We had one and traded it in on a 28 FC. Ours was a 25 ft. version. We did not use the back door as much as we thought we would. We never hauled anything in it either. And, the upholstery was easy to stain. However, It is a great versatile trailer for those who like the flexibility. Certainly it would be nice to back up to a stream or river in nice weather and open the back door.

We have the 27FB Eddie Bauer. In the summer we used the rear hatch daily with the screen down to bring the outside in. I have found we have used the rear hatch for the following
- relaxing breeze / airing out trailer
- serving food from the grill directly to the table (lazy pass thru)
- packing cooler, larger items
- Bringing mountain bikes

The versatility of the wide opening will still be used in the winter months. Also the fact that the benchs all fold up clearing a giant foot print of room is great for our lifestyle. Between us and the 2 large dogs, we are finding we have LOTS of room.

As for cost- that could range on a new anywhere from 70K and up I would expect for a 27FB. It really depends on accessories and negotiating.

I personally paid around 60K for our 27FB, as it was 12 months old. I also then paid a little extra for things like the Equalizer Load Balancing Hitch, 2 Honda 2000 gennies, and the maintenance transfer package. I am sure that an Airstream is not a good financial investment. However it is a great memories investment. And with us living in our Fulltime now for the last 3 months, we are saving for our next home.

Yes, every time we are out ... from February to October in the northern (very) part of the US. Whether it is worth the extra $$ - only you know / personal taste. But, you also get larger tires / wheels, upgraded upholstery, & versatility of bench seats that fold up in case you want to haul something inside ... like bicycles or extra gear.

The open rear hatch provides excellent shade from the sun while open and the opening is fully screened ... it is just what we wanted and have not been disappointed with the design at any point ... only a 25', but wife really thinks that it is the cat's meow !!! Without the inside "bump out" of the sink, it makes it much easier for folks to pass each other in that area.

The floor covering is exceedingly durable as the EB upgrade includes and we added quickly removable carpeting on top of that ... PM if you want further thoughts.

I don't think there is anything rude or even personal about asking the price of a trailer., at least in this forum. We already know the MSRP and that the dealers discount that price. It is not like asking one's income,or credit score. It is just another piece of important information we are all interested in. We should share this information so we can all benefit from that information when we are negotiating our own deals. Only the dealers benefit from keeping this information secret, and they can negotiate better than we can because they do it every day. Why give them more of an advantage?
