Picture 1 is they taped over both sides so almost no air movement
Picture 2. I found this loose inside the box and you can see where it has hit the circuit board
Picture 3 is the broken cooling fan. The piece of plastic missing was down into the fan stopping it from working but with the tape covering it what difference would it have made
Have a new progressive PD6455 that I installed. Money well spent. Still under warranty but working inside the Yellowstone national park and no dealer close. Thank goodness I am a master mechanic and a master RV tech so I was able to fix it before I had a fire.
Wow - that was a good find on your part. Amazing that Airstream left tape over the fan and loose pieces in the case.
Just replaced my Parallax Series 500 converter with a PD4655. Was not a direct replacement by any means. Basically had to gut the old converter and mount the new board inside the old chassis with modifications to the case. Glad to have that project done. At least I didn't have the issues you did with yours. Just didn't want to cook my batteries.

Bob, AHA! Just glad you finally found the trouble. Spent all this week at Shenandoah NP. High 90's in "lower" VA, but never got above 78 at 3,500 ft. Gorgeous park, nice CG, wonderful to have done all the mods since zero hookups there!
From what I've seen with Airstream, if it isn't in plain view (its hidden or behind a panel), expect the item to either be installed incorrectly, broken, or have issues or defects.
I mean what kind of turds do they have working at the factory? You cannot tell me a worker didn't see 60% of that fan covered with tape. The "I don't give a crap" mentality from the Airstream factory workers is off the chart.
Well found out that they are shipped to the factory with the tape on them and it is suppose to be removed before it is installed OPPS. It is fairly easy to slide the unit out on the classics to inspect it if you are handy. I recommend that. Airstream is making it up to me and for that I am happy. Getting the equipment to check the batteries from work and make sure that they are good before the warranty hoes out
