Portable bar

I wanted to share a little camp accessory I made a year and a half or so ago - it's been on ~15 trips with us so far. My family usually camps with my best friend and his family; they have a hybrid kiwi they bring and we camp all over VA and usually one trip per year into PA. We've also ventured up to NY and down to NC on trips.

One thing we all love is craft beer, and our days camping usually involve us hanging out outside, chasing the kids around, cooking, and then when the kids go to bed, tasting some good beer - often locally sourced in growlers from local breweries. We spend little to no time in the airstream - only to sleep and occasionally to cook breakfast or if the weather is really bad. So rather than sit around in camp chairs under the awning (it's hot in the sun in VA in the summer) I decided to see if I could fashion a portable bar to hang out at. I looked at some commercially available stuff on Amazon and the like but nothing really stood out as being both portable and somewhat sturdy.

So, I built my own. It was incredibly simple and cost under $40. I picked up a couple of pallets from a local carpet store (free), an $8 2x12 framing board, a set of door hinges ($10), some bamboo landscaping fence ($9), some L brackets ($3) and a bottle opener ($6). I then attached the pallets together in an L-shape with the hinges, cut the framing board at a 45 degree angle and mounted each piece on top of the pallet with the L brackets. Cut the fencing to the height of the pallets and voila, portable tiki bar that folds up and slides in the door of the camper or back of the truck when not in use. My buddy grabbed a set of bar stools at a garage sale for $15 and we were set. Super easy to build, took around an hour and a half to build and can be set up or put away in around a minute, most of which is putting the bamboo fencing back on.

HA!

I LIKE IT!

Been wanting a bar for my hangar, thinking/hoping I'd find some old hippie who had a cheap vinyl circle-bar in a garage sale, but I might just do what you just taught me.

Thanks!

That is great. Where does it go when you are traveling?

I fold it up like the first pic and slide it right in the door of the airstream or in the back of the truck, bar top down.

We always welcome visitors! Though once or twice I've had people pour their heart out to me while playing bartender .

We occasionally have our own hand crafted beer on tap but that's pretty rare. Mostly it's an assortment of our favorites in bottles and cans and a few growlers from local breweries.
