Don't own an AS yet but have started searching and discovered a few things. Older models are more budget friendly - likely looking for something that will provide a good first time experience. A remodel/upgrade can come later once we have an idea of what's involved. Will also be twin configured - I like the roomier feel and additional accessible storage.

Size matters? Our expected tow vehicle will handle 6000 lbs so something up to 27 ft seems to be a good target. Are length restrictions based on destinations a big deal? If that's the case, 24 can also work.

Is A/C a necessity? it could mean the difference between a retro and a later model.

Also, not RV related but wondering about RV Park security. Are personal protection fire arms the norm today?

Well, I would be looking 80's, narrow body. Lighter for a given length. Not particularly expensive per foot compared to a classic collectible or a shiny new one. You will have unexpected expenses.

For example:

Fair chance you will need a couple of axles -- maybe a couple of grand, installed.

Water heater, reefer, furnace... One or more will need work or replacement.

A/C is a very nice thing. You are living inside an aluminum tube -- doesn't take much direct sun to make it an Easy Bake Oven.

Firearms are a non-issue. Obey whatever State laws for the locale you happen to be in and no one will much care.

My 27 ft 2015 can weigh over 7000 lbs fully loaded. I don't carry a gun, some do. If a place looks or feels unsafe I don't hang about long. Yes, AC is necessary.
