Who reads - need a book ?
I saw a cool idea on another site for a mobile free library mounted on the camper tongue. Great idea! Several times I've found myself reading the same book in a rainstorm - the one I read during the last downpour and bet that others have had the same experience.
Here's a pic of hand built library on an Escape:
Little free library is a nonprofit that incites folks to read and share books and typically you see these in residential neighborhoods but a mobile version would be cool.
I'm thinking aluminum would be nice. Any design ideas?

Good idea. Books are where it's at. I usually take at least two when I camp. Top of Georgia used to have a small library in the rec room. Very nice.

That's really cute!
There is a Little Free Library on the bike path north of me the past couple of years...take a book, leave a book.
I believe the house that backs up to that piece of the trail put it up there and maintains it...I see people dropping off and picking up all the time.
We used to carry books, went to electronic readers years ago, which is so much more practical in the Interstate, but I still pick one up in a campground on occasion...leave them when I'm done in another campground, a laundry room, etc., for the next reader.
Reading is good.

What a great (and gracious) idea! Yes, I download ebooks to my tablet but there are many times when I just pick up a book. There were two of these little libraries near where I lived in Spokane and it was fun to stop and see what was there and/or drop off one I had read. I never would have thought of taking one on the road though!
I like your idea of a metal one, Janet. That would be cute next to an AS.

That's a fantastic idea. Nice way to share.
Would be fun to make a Airstream shaped one where to top opened up like the older metal lunchboxes.

Great idea....... the lack of finding good books sent me to Kindle years ago ...couldnt imagine going back now but my wife had kindle issues awhile back and picked up a free book in a laundry...lots of old school readers still out there.

I like the idea, but don't need anything else to bring along on trips. We do have a loaner Kindle that is tied to our Amazon account and that has hundreds of books on it. I don't mind bringing that along and letting someone borrow it for a few days if there's a book they'd like to read.

We're fulltimers and have some real books with us. I generally download library books to my iPhone, and I'm saving up to add a significant theological library to my laptop. That will be a real blessing.

Something like this lending library on a street corner in Bluff, Utah last year. A great idea for a small community like Bluff or RV'ers.

Love the idea, it's really cute. Hey, if you're gonna fab one from Aluminum, it should naturally look like an Airstream.

Weatherproof is even more important since the contents will be paper. Maybe something like a rural mailbox?
You could even use the mailbox flag to show that new books have arrived.

Love this idea.
Some RV parks have a "Take a book - leave a book" exchange.

That is neat. I have seen several of those in neighborhoods in places like Boston over the years. I switched to a Kindle for most of my reading, but still enjoy a real book on occasion.

I'm so glad that I found this thread. I have a Little Free Library that has been under-used and wanted to take it with on the road in the Airstream. I thought it would be kinda fun.
My largest problem is... how to mount it. I like the idea of doing it on the trailer, but some folks would be a little apprehensive to walking that close to a trailer I would think. Although, putting it at the end of the campsite could also have some unwanted actions.
I would love your thoughts. Mine looks like this:
