Talking the aluminum condition

Last Friday my aluminitus flared up. I went to Shreveport to get it looked at and here is the filled prescription. I hope my Overlander doesn't get jealous.

Yeah, it looks like there's a lot of people that can't stop at one. We've been looking for a Caravel since going to the RM VAC rally last month. Found a clean one and all of a sudden we've got another project. I'm going to get a new axle on order and we'll start polishing as soon as the weather cools off a little. This ought to be a snap after polishing an Overlander.

The skins in pretty good shape, the floor and interior is good. The electrical and plumbing is perfect. Need to find a refrigerator and do a little work on the appliances. We love it!

Gosh if it only took you a month to find one, your doing pretty good -

I got excited about my restoration of my 58 when I saw yours - you have a really nice trailer there - can't wait to see the new one.

thanks Ken! I was really surprised when when the Caravel turned up and that we were the first ones to see it. I'm impressed with how much room it has for such a small rig. The only negative is the wet bath. I'm not sure how you can shower and keep water out of the under lavatory cabinet and from slipping around cracks and crevices. I guess we'll work that one out. But to polish it should be much easier as it is in much much better shape than what the Overlander was. I gotta get started so it'll be ready for the next RM VAC rally.

I realize this is an older post. We have a 66' Caravel and we are still researching and debating. So far, we decided project #1 was the axle, now to find someone who can do it under 2 grand. Know of anyone? ;-)
Also considering dumping the sink in favor or a larger shower area, and doing it in aluminum. What did you do with the bath?

Jerri,

Congrats on your new Caravel. I'm not sure what he would charge but you may want to try Luke's Maintanance & Repair Co. Fort Collins, CO. I know it's not in Texas but Luke is awesome! We had him do our axles and are extremely pleased. Not to mention Luke is a fellow Caravel owner. It may even be a 65 or 66. pm me if you would like his contact info.

Axles are not hard to do as a DIY project. New ones can be ordered from Andy at Inland RV, and here is a recent thread on how. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f437...ion-72600.html

axle replacement in cs area

Talk to Gooseneck Trailers on Hiway 21 or Country RV on Hiway 6 towards Hearne. Both places are good folks. You would want to order your axle from Inland Rv and have it drop shipped to the installer. Andy will know exactly what axle you need and these local people might order and install the wrong type. Good Luck and welcome to Airstreaming

ooooo. someone in Plantersville!
I talked to the RV station, they quoted me high and half the time I go there I cannot find anyone on the property!
I didn't see any a/s at the country RV place, so I didn't call them.
As for Gooseneck Trailers, I called them first, they won't touch an RV.

Andy would order the right one and we could install the axle probably, but the welding of brakes a certain way on a Caravel is the issue. My husband and I are not DIY welders! He is a dentist and I am a nurse, he will do carpentry and wiring...but welding-we would rather be safe than sorry!
