Older floorplans

Hey everyone,

I've been pretty much learning everything Airstream the past few weeks and have really learned alot since I found this site. So here's another question for you (with some background first).

I've been camping for a while with my wife and two little boys in a newer trailer with a slideout, separate sleeping areas, etc. That has unfortunately gone the way of the fulltiming parents, though.

So the question is, is it possible for me to find a mid-70's A/S with something like this: a sleeping area with bunks (or area to convert to two bunks for the boys), a sleeping area with couch/bed (for mom and dad), and still have a table to use without having to pack up a bed or raise and lower a table? If so, what years or models offer this possibility?

I'm really interested in cleaning up / refurbishing an A/S although if I don't find this arrangement, the family will have to readjust our camping habits. We're willing to do that, but I just wanted to get others' opinions before zeroing in on the perfect silver hacienda

Older floorplans

Greetings Steve!

There is a fairly standard floor plan (often called center twin) available in 24' and longer Airstreams that began sometime in the 1950s and ran through the 1970s and possibly into the 1980s. I have this plan in my '64 Overlander:

Full width rear bath with twin wardrobes

Center (over axles) twin beds (remain made up) with optional hammock bunks that can be suspended over the center twins to accommodate two additional campers (under 90 pounds each).

Compact Kitchen sink/range streetside with pantry and refrigerator curbside.

Front lounge (converts to double bed) with independent drop-leaf table <<would be folding wall or cabinet mounted (Credenza Table) table in later coaches>>.

I have always been impressed by the sense of spaciousness that this floor plan allows. The down-side, for some, is the lack of kitchen space.

Kevin
