Keep those postings going, pictures, or no pictures!

Good see my comment about posting pictures has stirred such a response ! Good grief, no one is suggesting the driver should fumble for his iphone to snap a picture of a passing AS. It's my choice to receive the email updates from this thread, I scan right over the posts without a picture (too dull), my family thinks I'm very nerdy to be so excited about seeing another AS on the road, but just don't see the point of postings without pic ... anyways, no offense meant to those who like to do that

No offense taken. I'm an airstream fanatic so I'm constantly reading the threads. And I enjoy the pics too.
Happy travels!!!

Dash Cam

I think I might just mount a large dash cam on my TV, and have it pointed toward the oncoming traffic. Then I can safely, with a remote, fire some shots, and possibly get lucky and have some that are not fur balls.....

Nick no offense taken.

We hope to be spotted here on the forum someday, picture or no picture, it will make our day when that happens.

We're not so fast at getting the picture but try our best to describe them and usually get the location pretty spot on.

What we find interesting is how fast we forget what the tow vehicle was cause we're so busy staring at the AS.

I just took a better look at the early posts here, and it is amazing how many do not contain photos, as cell phone cameras were not as ubiquitous then.

I actually like the "old-fashioned" tone and feel of the old posts -- very comfortable -- like Airstreaming "used to be" back in the 90's when we had our 25'.

Also, the text describing the sightings is usually longer, as it takes the place of a photo, and reminds one of listening to Prairie Home Companion on Saturday nights. Without the visuals, one's mind has to be creative and fill in the blanks.

A quieter time . . .

I have also greatly enjoyed your Meanderings thread, and the detailed locations and descriptions!

Absolutely beautiful 3 axle (they said 34') Airstream with wood paneling in the movie The Accountant. And in the new TV series Lethal Weapon the main character lives in an Airstream on the beach.

Last Friday, 10/7/16 we were headed to Cranberry Lake Campground. As we were coming into Star Lake, we meet an Excella which was close to ours pulled by a white tv which flashed their lights at the same time we did.
Upon arriving at campsite #118, we meet our friends who informed us that a 1988 28' Excella with a white tv had just left. We have a maroon truck, but the trailer is the same year and model.
Their was another airstream about the same size, but in the 1990's. They were from Rochester area, but we never had a chance to meet.

The smell of vintage aluminum

The boss and I made the 1,000 mile trip from Vero Beach, FL to Frederick, MD yesterday. I95 was not heavily traveled northbound for most of that trip. In places in NC it was even closed due to flooding. It was more heavily traveled southbound and we saw four separate Airstreams moving toward Florida. All were in north Florida or southern Georgia, all were late model (probably 2000 or newer) and all larger models (25+ footers). One had a set of WBCCI numerals on the front. It looks like the migration south has begun!

Although our 2014 EB 25 was left at home for this trip, we managed to drag some vintage aluminum behind the trusty Tundra. See pic below. I believe that what we had was the U-Haul equivalent of a restaurant framing the first dollar that reached its till. I couldn't find a U-Haul serial number on this rig, but I'm thinking it began with a series of zeros.

Enjoy Florida you snowbirds! We'll be home soon to join you. Our next trip is the Florida keys for Thanksgiving.

I saw one other Airstream at Salmon Lake Park in Grapeland, TX yesterday- a 2004 Safari 25 that looked brand new. It was at a Casita rally. The owner's sister has a Casita.
I saw a newer Bambi headed west on I-20 today as i was headed east just inside Louisiana at the Mississippi state line.
2 Airstream sightings in one trip is a somewhat rare occurrence.

Airstream sightings

It's frustrating to report a sighting without a picture. I know I did that some days ago when I reported a sighting on the road - the A1 between Vienna and Linz here in Austria. But it was such a shock and thrill I wanted to share a sighting of an Airstream in Europe. Better need today. Here is what appears to be a 60's era 20-footer made into a store in front of the University of Vienna, Austria. This one we saw from the tram, jumped off and got the pictures. The sales person inside knew it was rebuilt (the serial number plate is now Austrian and says 2015) but he thought it was a copy. I showed him patched tear-drop running lights and water inlets plus original frame and bumpers and assured him it was a "real" Airstream.

Watched the ad a few times. The AS is bouncing rather violently on the dirt track they are on. A little scary to watch. Maybe it's a stripped one because of the way it's bouncing.
