can reg. trailer wheel wells be used?

Ok, I looked through the wheel well forums and found nothing about using wheel wells you would buy to build a flat bed trailer with. I need to replace mine as they have sagged and split in a few places.

I guess I could get some sheet metal and weld them up, but it would be quicker and easy if the pre fabricated ones would work. Has anyone ever done this?

I also want them I bit thicker than the original ones, as I don't want a blow out to take them out, or have them sag again.

I had mine made up at a local heating a/c shop pretty reasonably. only problem I had was that they missed the fact that the exterior walls are curved and had to readjust them a bit. I suspect you might have the same issue with premade units

Airstream's inner and outer plastic wheel well covers are pretty cheap.

Thanks Andy I will look into the inner plastic but I want metal for the outside.
I spent time last night on the internet and could find nothing from a general trailer fender that would fit. So I think I will just get some 18 gage metal cut to the right size and weld it up. Then put the plastic ones for the inside over them.

I was thinking to coat the inside of the fenders with bed liner stuff you can buy in a can. I just don't want the fender to come apart if I get a blow out. And plastic or thin galvanized just gets toasted. So if Im going to have to do it i'm going to go a little over kill.
