The steps aren't fully retracting, and sometimes don't extend all the way. I suspect the problem is a bent component - the guide slot I guess you'd call it. The rig is a 1997 Land Yacht.
Can I bend it back into workable shape with the careful application of a hammer? Should I heat the metal first?
"No idea how it happened" he said, but I suspect it happened at the motorcycle rally or deer camp last year...
Many thanks for any advice you can offer!

I would re-work it with hammer and some body tools, if necessary. Can you get to the underneath side? I would think you are going to have to remove the step or find some way to hold it firm. Just whacking at it while deployed will probably be ineffective and may loosen/bend other parts. Don't think heat will help, and may weaken the metal in that area.
