Stripes and Badges

The po of my 1985 airstream removed the stripes and Excello badges. He had the stripe painted solid blue, by a profesional auto painter (the light blue). I can get new decal and badges, but the badges appear to be on a field of solid dark blue in pictures, not sure if I'm really looking at 1985. Stripe I can buy, is two tones of blue with silver pinstripes. I would like to see a picture of a verified 1985, so I know for sure what original is. I would also like any ideas from anyone who has done this

How about pointers on installation then, I figure more than a few have done it. I have no experience on the matter.

I have a call in to an old friend who use to decal fire engines. The new stripes are 7 1/2" wide, that is wider than where they go. Do they under the trim? Trim covering part of decal?

lahrfarm, nice to meet you here on Air Forums. I have an 86 Limited that I restriped a couple of years ago. My trailer vinyl stripe had sun faded and looked bad. It was a "wood grain" stripe which I could not find anywhere. So I just went with black. Vinyl pin striping is readily available. I elected not to use the sliver pinstripe I purchased.

Removing the old vinyl was a challenge. Yep, the body moldings come off, no sweat really. I tried those rubber wheels with very limited success. Then I reach for my Aircraft Stripper and bubbled up that old vinyl in no time. I simply just scraped it off with a plastic scraper.

I did take off the molding above and below the vinyl stripe. The new stuff was tricky to apply as it is instant stick. You have to get it straight and get the air out all at the same time. I need more practice. I had one wrinkle I'm not too proud of.

You probably can remove the painted on blue with Aircraft stripper. Clean the surface and then apply the new vinyl. It's a big project, sure.
