Reese Twin Cam Setup

Hello Folks

A 750 Reese Twin Cam came with our 23 ft. Safari. I thought the back upper bars were not adjusted quite right so loosened them off and they movved about a quarter of an inch and fell into the valley of the lubricated cam. This was done with the "trailer road ready". Is this the proper adjustment for this hitch? No documentation came with the Reese. Thnxs for any info.

Your proceedure is almost correct.
You must have a straight line obtained for the trailer/tow vehicle by pulling it perfectly straight for 75-100 yards on level ground.
Then the trailer and tow vehicle should be checked for levelness. If the desired levelness is present, then you adjust the saddles like you did. However, they should NOT be lubed. Lubrication of the saddles prohibits the cam/saddle from being as effective in anti-sway control because the surfaces are slick with lube, and it is the friction that provides your anti-sway control. Lubing the saddles defeats your anti-sway, and should not be done at all.
Once the saddles jump into place at the top of the cam, tighten the bolts back up that hold the saddles and you are set with a perfect straight line.

Thnxs for this good info. The previous owner of my Safari sold the trailer with the twin cam and "showed me" how to lube the cam area to prevent "noisy operation"??? I will remove the lube as you suggested. Thnxs again.

One more thing...

I just got out of the Reese website and found it quite good. They too say to keep the cam surfaces dry. It also said that if the noise got to be too much that vasoline could be used but best to run without the lube and accept the noise.

I've had the dual cam unit for almost 6 years. Yes, its noisy. It groans and pops, especially when you first hookup and start pulling or are backing. Don't lube the cams its very important to keep the friction on these components.

DOUBLE UP A SMALL PIECE OF ALUMIMUM FOIL AND PLACE IN THERE BEFORE HOOK UP, I ALSO HAVE USED WD40 WITH OUT ANY LOSS OF CAM ACTION
