I Need Photos/Diagram of Reinforced Mercedes Hitch

If anyone has pictures or diagrams of a reinforced Mercedes hitch, I would appreciate it. I want to get my GL450 hitch reinforced like they do them at Can-Am but not wanting to drive 2000 miles to do it.

Check out this thread on ClubTouareg. Not your vehicle, but will give you the idea. Can-Am use (what looks like) 2.5" box section directly in between the chain attachment loops then a smaller box section, probably 2" square, slid up inside the larger section welded with some reinforcement either side. This section is bent to closely follow the line of the rear muffler. Attachment is made to the rear suspension mounting frame using what looks like 0.25" plate. This connection can also be bolted rather than welded. I have a picture of that from Can-Am I'll post later.

Photos

These are photos for different vehicles, looks like Touareg and Audi Q7 but will give you the idea. I'm sure I saw photos of a Mercedes with similar mods but could not find any.

Note that this mod does reduce ground clearance by about 2".

Each one is different, sometimes for even the same model. Mine goes through the shroud that covers the air suspension when so equipped. Mine isn't, so no loss of ground clearance. If I had that option they would have had to build around it. Main items added in my case were the forward brace, an extended receiver tube, and beefed up weld and gussets at the semi circle factory welds - the infamous weak leak on MB hitches.

We have the same bracing (done by CanAm) on our 2015 X5 diesel. Very simple but very effective.
