GMC air suspension/hitch adjustment

I have a GMC Yukon XL with with self leveling airsuspension package which I have never had before. Have a propride hitch. Two problems.
1. not sure how to adjust weight distribution bars as the car is automatically adjusted once I take it off the hitch stand.
2. I seem to be having a problem actually finding the proper release height with the weight off the hitch when un hitching. Generally appears to be free then when I drive hitch out it drops several inches.
Anyone have any experience with this type of hitch and suspension system?

We have an 08 Tahoe with the Auto suspension as well. If you look at your owners manual it says to make your adustments with out the engine running. This will not activate the air pump and will allow you to adust the hitch correctly. The other problem we had was choosing the right shank drop because the hitch is pretty high. I have a Equalizer type hitch by the way.

Thanks subfan1 for your info..I will try it..When you turn the engine off after trailering does it go release the air suspension and it lets the weight settle on the hitch naturally?

Yes, It will settle faster when I jack it up to unhitch. You will be able to hear the air come out. If you are hitched and you stop for lunch or whatever, you will notice it settling somewhat but not completely.

Hi, read your tow vehicle's owner's manual. On my Lincoln it says to let the vehicle come up to normal drive height, with engine running, then turn off the suspension switch. Now connect and adjust your hitch accordingly. Turn suspension switch back on and go. My Lincoln lowers about one inch, in the rear, when the engine is shut off, and one of the rear doors is opened.
