Fall 2017 - F150 with 10 speed and 411 hp/434 lb ft???

Based on these two articles the Raptor will have the 10 speed and high output ecoboost for 2017. Regular F150's will at least have the 10 speed by year end. I wonder if they will get the high output engine as well or if Ford will reserve them for the Raptor?

An XLT with these specs and over 2000 lbs payload sounds awesome!

Looks like regular F150's will be 365 hp and 450 lb ft. Awesome!

Hi, and the second generation 3.5 L Ecoboost is virtually a completely new /different engine.

Yea. Saw that. Interesting that they have direct injection and conventional. I wonder if that's a tacit admission that direct injection is causing buildup issues for them and anyone everyone else using it?

It may have to do with the stop/start technology.

Possible. Does the new 3.5 have stop/start? I thought that was limited to the 2.7 but I could be wrong.

Yes. Ford says this new engine will. Just as the 2.7 does already. Coupled with the new transmission they are expecting a little better mpg.

Interesting. Not sure how I feel about that technology...

I'm constantly turning it off in my wife's car. It is annoying as heck. The silence when the engine turns off is creepy.

Turning on tow/haul disables the auto-start-stop thing. I don't know if sport mode on the transmission disables it or not, but on the 2.7s there's also a button to turn it off. However, you'd have to hit that every time you start the engine. You'd be surprised how quickly you get used to doing such a thing... the traction control on my '01 GTI was so terrible that I used it only when it was wet. It would chop the power for a LONG moment with just a tiny bit of slip, which can be the bad kind of exciting when making a left turn across traffic.

I think the port+direct injection addresses several issues. It improves emissions in some conditions (DI engines tend to have more particulates) and likely helps with buildup on the back side of the valves. I know Toyota uses it on some engines, I don't know what other companies might.

The announcement yesterday was that the 2nd gen 3.5EB+10spd will arrive THIS fall for the regular 2017 model F150s. The higher-output Ecoboost in the Raptor may be later availability. I don't think there'll be an option for the Raptor engine in regular F150s but all the 3.5EB trucks are supposed to have the 10-speed for the 2017 model year.

Impressive. Hate the idea of rebuilding a 10/auto, but it sure ought to put that little motor constantly in the sweet spot.

Occasionally I poke around for info on the 2017 f150s, just found this pdf that shows only a 6 speed transmission Perhaps that will change.

The 8, 9 and 10 speed transmissions will be replace when broken in some brands. No field rebuilds. That thought reflects the tacit fact that there are few mechanics any more, just part changers.

My old 4-speed 4R75W from 2007 was treated as "replace with factory rebuilt" as well by the service-policy company. I'd honestly rather have a warranted rebuilt from a shop specializing in transmissions than roll the dice on a local wrenchape who may or may not be good at transmission rebuilds and may or may not have a clean place to put transmissions together.

Adobe Acrobat Reader shows that file as having been created 21 March, so it's probably just that it came out a month before the public announcement of the 10-speed and Gen2 3.5L Ecoboost for the F150. Some guy in fleet marketing didn't have the "need to know" about the future announcement.
