94 f350

There's a 94 Ford F-350 7.3 liter near me with around 200k miles that seems to be a decent price. My 1979 Airstream weighs only 7500lbs when loaded to the MAX, so this is obviously way more truck than I need. Am I a fool for considering a truck like this?

Absolutely NOT! I am not a Ford man, but have always loved diesel engines after being in the military and working on so DANG many of em...diesel engines that is.

That 7.3 engine is LEGENDARY in it's bullet proof performance. 200k..HA! That engine is just getting started. If I was looking...I might beat you to it. If you have found one where the body is still in good shape, jump on it. I can promise you, I might be the first person to respond to your post, but I guarantee you there will be many more behind me saying the same thing. That engine is truly a workhorse, that just won't quit. They are amazingly strong, & very durable engines.

Haven't seen it in person yet, but body appears to be in pretty good shape with some minor rust around the fenders. Transmission reported to be smooth. Just found out the 4 low isn't working, but 4 high does--problem with linkage suspected. 4 doors, eight foot bed. Asking price $7500.

Was just reading another thread and mentioned was some trucks being too much for a trailer, and reduced contact patch at the drive axle and potential rollover. I'm not sure I understand this, but would be interested in hearing more about potential issues.

That is probably a 7.3L IDI. I just got rid of my 92 a few yrs back. I would not mess with one that old. You probably have a non-turbo ID 175 HP engine. It is not the powerstroke. It would be a good doomsday truck if it had a manual transmission. I would run unless you like spending money and going slow. I sold mine for $3500 and it was in better shape than the one you mention.

Perry- the side of the truck says F350XLT Turbo Diesel. Does that mean it does in fact have the power stroke?

Ford started producing the PowerStroke in late 1994 as 1995 model-year trucks..... that is what I have and LOVE. Find out exactly what it is..... check the sticker on the driver's door frame, get the build date and the VIN number. If it IS a PowerStroke, I would suggest getting it, but not for that price. I got my 1995 F250 for $6850 three years ago, and it only had 70,000 miles on it. I'd offer $5K and go from there.

If it is a non-PowerStroke IDI, it can still be a decent truck, but it's no hot rod and it is not a PowerStroke. I certainly would NOT pay that much for it, either. Start at 1/2 that, if you decide to go after it.

Either one would need to be looked at with a fine comb. Do you know anyone that "knows" those trucks? I learned a TON from this site: POWERSTROKEHELP.COM - The Information Source for Ford Power Stroke Diesel Owners. He has a lot of good information, and for your purposes the videos on "longevity" will be good to learn about.

A PowerStroke also has/had a PowerStroke sticker under the F250 or F350 emblem on the left and right front quarter panels. The pre-PowerStroke 7.3's could have a turbo on it
