2012 Suburban Receiver height
I traded my 2008 Suburban for a 2012 Suburban early last year. To look at the 2008 and 2012 you can't really see much of a difference. in 2008 Chevy went to a factory type receiver and the same type receiver was on the 2012. But although I never gave it much thought the height of the receiver opening measured from the ground to the top of the receiver is 2" lower on my 2012 (22") than on my 2008 (24"). Even though I have the same 20" size wheels and tires on the 2012 that was on the 2008.
When I bought the 2008 I had a 4'' Hensley Arrow drop bar that I had used with my 2004 Suburban and had to swap that out for an 8" drop bar for the 2008. As I said I have not given this much though but had felt that the trailer when connected sit down in front just a little from what it had with the 2008.
If anyone has a 2012 Suburban 1500 with the same wheel size what are the measurements of the receiver compared to mine above. Also if someone has a 2012 Suburban 1500 with same wheel size and has a Hensley Arrow what drop bar are you using.
Thanks
Don

I've been using 8" in the new body style Escalade EXT, Yukon Denali XL and Burbs, with good results. Wheel diameter is not important....rolling diameter of the tire/wheel combination is. I have had 22s on the Caddy, and the Denalis.

This style receiver?....
I was at a Chevy store in 07 when they first started using the "in bumper", could tell at the time some folks were going to have concerns.
I believe the one pictured measured 25".
I went from a 95 Burb 2500, 4" drop haha stinger, to a 06 2500 6" drop.
Were you dead level with the 08 WD adjusted?
If so the 6" should bring you with-in range.
There is an adjustable stinger available from ProPride.

I think the 6" drop would be a better fit, not to mention just a bit lighter weight. I will just have to redesign my drop bar tool box for storing it when not in use.

Boy, guys, not sure about this so I went back to my Word document Notes. Here's what I have
AS Hitch Ball Height: 18 ¾”
Hensley Ball top to Inside Top of Hensley hitch box: 3 1/2“ so target height of inside of Hensley box = 15 1/4"
Suburban top of receiver to ground = 23 1/8”
23 1/8" - 15 1/4" = 7 7/8" Hensley drop 8” required
So, I guess you had better go measure your actual tongue height on the AS.

BTW, I have a 2012 Yukon XL out on the drive right now. Went out and measured just now....23" top inside of receiver to ground with the 22s on it.

Here is a picture I took of the 2008 Suburban 1500 20" wheels and tires back in 2008.
It is on level ground and the measurement from the ground to the top of the receiver opening is 24". You can click on the picture to enlarge it and see tape measure at 24" The same measurement on the 2012 is 22 1/2". I don't have the trailer home so I can't measure the height on the AS.

Well Don, there must be some suspension/tire/wheel differences. I guess you're going to have to measure the HAHA inside box height with AS level and subtract that from your Sub inside receiver height. Not sure there is enough consistency for you to order a stinger based on our inputs.

I will wait until I have the AS home again in a couple of weeks to see what I come up with.
Thanks for the input.

Did you have the same suspension type (LTZ, Z71 or standard)?
