09 Dodge 2500 for towing???

Need feed back from Dodge owners.
Have found what I think is a good deal on a new 09 dodge 2500
w/ 5.7 hemi. 5 speed automatic trans. 3.73 rear
If you have one or something close, I would like your opinion on how it tows your AS. I have a 05 25' Safari
Flat Ground, Mountains, Gas Mileage, etc.

I have a 2007 Dodge 1500 Megacab, which is built on the 2500 frame etc. with the Hemi and 3:73 rear end.
I tow a 1994 34' Classic which I think weighs about 9000 lbs. with no problems at all. It will rev up to 3500 or 4000 RPM going up a hill etc. but pulls very strong. It gets about 9.5 to 10mpg (US Gallons). I am very happy with the truck.
I also use a Hensley hitch which works very well. I tow with two fingers on the wheel and a coffee in the other hand. The wind and the trucks don't bother me at all.

what are getting highway while not towing your AS

I get between 17 and 20 mpg (US Gallon) on the highway. I haven't had any problems at all with this Dodge. It has the 160 inch wheelbase and is a heavy truck. I think that you will be very happy with the 2500. My Dodge Dealer told me that the diesel would get a little bit better mileage in town but the same as the Hemi on the highway.
I spoke with another camper last week while camping in Northern Ontario and he had a 2009 Ford F250 Diesel. He was very unhappy as he was only getting 11mpg.
I have put a Cold Air Intake, a Magnaflow muffler and a Hypertech computer programmer on the truck as well. This has helped both power and MPG's.

I tow with a 2003, 3/4 ton Quad cab, Hemi with 3:73 gears. The truck does a very good job with my trailer. I never thought I'd own a Dodge but found a great deal a couple of years ago. I get better than 11mpg towing and 17 plus highway. I try to be light footed though. We drive or abuse Fords at work and I'd put my truck up against one anytime. I think the fit and finish is better and overall quality at least as good if not better. My experience has been good. I'd buy another. Hope that helps.

Although not identical to what you are looking for I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins Diesel. I pulled a 30 classic for four years and now am pulling a 34. I love the truck and have 100,000 miles on it. It's my daily driver.

Being a diesel I get 12 to 14 mpg pulling the 30 and 18 mpg bob tail in mixed driving. On the highway I get around 23.

Man.... we have been using a 2005 3/4 ton with a Hemi and a NV4500 manual. couldn't be happier. 10mpg towing or not.

Have you looked at the new 1/2 ton Rams? My wife and I almost bought one over the summer but we are down an income right now. We were very impressed with the fit/finish, looks, power and especially the way it handled with the coil springs on all 4 wheels. If you don't plan on a longer trailer a half ton would pull the trailer great. I only mention this because the we were so impressed with the ride and how the truck rode and looked. Just food for thought.

We couldn't be happier with our Ram. It's an 05' 4x4 Laramie with 5 spd auto. I had 4.56 gears installed along with a SuperChips Tuner (towing mode) Magnaflow cat back exhaust and a Cold Air Intake. A Hot Rod to say the least. It handles everything I've asked of it with ease. My entire family has driven Fords for decades. The 6.0 Ford Diesel changed that. I don't miss them at all...I truly don't think I, or we...will ever go back.

Ours is the 2007 2500 Dodge Cummins, different than what you're considering, but we consistently average 15 towing the 25FB, 21 highway not towing. Note we have the 5.9 liter, not the new 6.7 liter which supposedly gets poorer gas mileage due to added emissions controls. We love this truck. Boy, does it get the job done, and efficiently.
