Overhead Kitchen Organizers

Wondering if anyone has ever done a kitchen organizer for dish/cups/mugs/pots/pans storage for the overhead bin of the kitchen?

I've posted a picture from Earth Roamer of how their's come. It would need to be something that can be assembled within the curved area and ships flat.

Thoughts?

That is really nice and I am a sucker for organization.

I think the more organized my life is the neater/calmer your (my) brain can be.

In looking at the silverware tray I see a very neat design but some wasted space. In my case I would say make it closer and then invert them every other direction and gain more room.

I'm really trying to focus on the overhead bins in the Tommy Bahama - my wife is shorter than me and needs it to be easy to find stuff. The other thing is that there is a lot of wasted space because of the height of the overhead space. And finally, we have breakable mugs that we really like to use with our coffee, so keeping them protected is part of the goal. I'd like to find a carpenter that can build a modular storage organizer like what is shown but can be assembled in the overheads without removing or modifying anything.

Looks nice, but poor use of space. Could be sold on the concept that upper cabinets should only have X lbs per ft. However, light and heavy can be comingled, so maybe not. Again, it looks very nice. Pat

Agree. It looks very elegant, but terribly inefficient... the utensil drawer was not designed by a "camper"...

Get a folding stool. Lifesaver for finding stuff in the bottom of the upper cabinet. Hang mugs from the ceiling.... when traveling put them in the sink.

For overhead storage, build a box. Hinge one end. Mount it to the ceiling. To access the contents, unlatch it and swing it down.

Yachtmaker Nordic Tugs used something like this to store a television. Swing the box down to watch TV, swing it up to make the TV disappear, as shown in this picture:

But the same concept can be used for anything that could be stored in a shallow space. It would be a great way to mount a spice rack, for example…

I wouldn’t put those large plates and bowls in overhead cabinets, as they are too heavy.

I use a lid organizer in a lower cabinet for my Corelle dishes, which keeps things nicely organized and allows use of otherwise wasted vertical space.

As everyone else has said, there is also a lot of wasted space shown here.

Does anyone really need their silverware not to touch, thus requiring such rigid segregation in a drawer?

It is all very clever and efficient looking, but doesn’t maximize the use of very limited storage space.

Only if it's real silver, to minimize the spread of tarnish. For stainless flatware, it doesn't matter. I use a reusable Velcro cable tie to bind all of my forks together, and one for all of my spoons (still trying to figure out how to tie the knives without them slipping free), and throw them in an ordinary kitchen organizer tray. The cable ties keep the flatware from rattling as much in transit.

I’m not sure what the upper cabinet is rated for but I’d rather reach above to grab a plate than reach below, and I small aluminum step ladder from Costco might be handy and stable for your wife

We actually have real silverplate picked up at an estate sale that we use for camping. $5 for all of it. Obviously we consider patina as adding to its charm

Back to the topic at hand. We found that one of those inexpensive wire shelf adders designed for dishes (shaped like a flat surface with legs) works great for adding a layer of "horizontal" in the overhead on our flying cloud.

For breakable cups, we cover them in old socks when underway. Same with the liquor and wine bottles.
