Insulate floor or not.

we live in the south and will not be up north when it is really cold. I have belly pan off. should i insulate or not. it was a mess down there.
any recommendations will be appreciated

In the south I think fiberglass insulation will collect more moisture from humidity than the insulation value will warrants. If you are running the AC you will reach the dew point somewhere in the thickness of the insulation. In the summer in New Jersey my parents house at the shore and over dirt, with exposed fiberglass insulation, would be dripping wet during the summer. If you have the pan off I would consider a spray on vapor barrier like undercoating, frame and floor.

I wouldn't use insulation under the floor. Use carpet or a click floor with padding to provide a little protection. Since heat rises, it won't be that big a deal. Insulation in the belly pan will just collect moisture and rot your plywood sub-floor.

What about using that reflective insulation stuff? Would you think that would cause a problem? We're contemplating the same things as Gutsgolf right now, and could use some direction too. Thanks.

I chose not to use any insulation at all in the belly pan. It was a real stinky, wet mess down there, so I just left it out.
