sticky vent cover openers

[60traveler]

when we purchased our 60 traveler, we were missing one of the original 14" x 14" aluminum hehr vent covers. we have finally located a replacement and are gearing up to install it.
the question is this: the original "ladeux" openers have seized up and won't turn. any tips on how to get these loosened up and working smoothly...hopefully without a toxic goo that melts my hands in the process?

You can try soaking those operators in WD-40 for several days.

If that does not free them up, then they are done.

We have machined replacements.

Try "Liquid Wrench", you can get it at any auto parts store.
