Replacing roof light shades. Need advice. Oceanair?

Hi all!

We're looking to replace our pleated, 2-stage, roof light shades in our 2001 Classic. They're useful but have not aged well. Also, I do not like the strings these blinds operate on. Bit of an eyesore to me.

Looks pretty streamlined to me but I'm unsure how it will install on the slight curve of an Airstream roof.

I don't like the light leaks associated with these, but I can always go with the more simple CabinShade, like this: http://www.oceanair.co.uk/rv/product...ade-cabinshade

Still beats storing and trying to get Reflectix to stay put in the roof light.

I'm also wondering if anyone has had success replacing the curved window blinds with something more sleek? Wondering if something like this might work: http://www.oceanair.co.uk/rv/product...ol-track-large

I have seen those but I haven't seen them large enough for a roof light (22"x22") and I didn't see a place to order a custom size. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?

The web page says to call (phone number at top left of page) for a custom quote. I had them mail me a sample. It's not bad but probably won't work for what we want for our vista views. But an interesting idea.

OceanAir makes quality products--we have them as our regular window blinds in our 2009 28' International Ocean Breeze, which we bought new.. They are just now starting to show some fraying on the outer edges where they hit the window levers, but otherwise still look very good.

Totally agree with you that the supplied pleated skylight shades are a bit funky, and don't wear well. We are just about to replace ours with the original items to clean up the look as we're starting to refurbish the inside of our coach. If you can get the OceanAir's to fit, please let us know. I imagine that they will be pricey, but the total blackout feature would be very nice, in addition to the cleaner look. The stock pleated blinds for the Vista windows have held up very well, so even though the OceanAir's look a bit nicer, can't justify the replacement expense at this point.

I just replaced ours with an oceanair , our dimensions are 19 3/4 X20, better than the accordion but not excited about it. The blind fits inside the opening but leaves a gap on both sides when drawn. I had to take the blind apart and spin the mounting ears so the slot pointed in the correct direction and I ended up cutting small slots in the trim ring for the mounting leg to recess in. The other leg still hangs below the trim ring a bit even after being trimmed. I wish I had seen the one in the previous link before I did this.

Nice job. Think your analysis is excellent, too-better than the accordion, but not worth it.

Somebody had posted different Ocean Air product fur this application.

Where did you purchase the blind? We may want to replace some of our main cabin blinds.

I've contacted OceanAir to ask about their Skyscreen line within Airstreams and will report back on what I hear.

A sleek, total blackout, with good insulation and heat reflection shade must exist, right?

Talked with JR at Zarcor. They offer the Skyscreen Surface solution from Oceanair but they ship it with precut 25% compressible foam that will fill any gaps made by curvature in the roof.

They don't list it in their Airstream section for some reason but you can find the info you need along with an install video that might help you make your decision here: http://www.zarcor.com/products/oceanair/skyscreen.php

BTW, dealing with OceanAir has been no fun. Their website is not clear and photos are limited. The ordering process is not a simple endeavor. I've emailed them with a few questions and I always get an unpleasant response from Martha referring me to Zarcor. Zarcor is way more helpful but they only carry a small portion of the OceanAir line.
