Cant get hinge pin out

i have a 65 caravel and need to get the door off. i removed the split pin and started tapping on the hinge shaft (or whatever it is called!). it didnt budge. added stuff in a can that is supposed to loosen this kind of thing without success. the shaft moves with the door. beat it hard with a punch and heavy hammer. still no movement.
any suggestions on how to break this loose. i assume that getting it out is the right thing to do.
thanks for everyones help
kevin

the door post member was broken ust above the hinge when i bought the AS a few weeks ago. the door is obviously not fitting. i was going to weld the post but have decided to insert either angle iron or tube of aluminum. i am either going to bolt or rivet it and believe it would be stable. it would be easier to do this with the door off and if it is tweaked, i would like to be able to bend it.
what do you think?

Kevin, I am in the process of repairing the door on my 1965 overlander. My hinge was not easy to remove and I actually broke part of it trying to get the pin out. What I had to do was actually cut the pin out between the two halves with a die grinder and cut off wheel. once that was done I was able to drive out the pin from each small section rather than as a whole. Much easier. As far as the door repair I would weld it. Do a google search for durafix aluminium weld. Believe it or not this stuff works great. I used it to weld mine back together and it was broken in four locations. I also added support braces to stiffen the door up and welded them in with durafix. If you purchase this stuff, make sure you use it exactly the way they tell you to in the instructions otherwise it will not work.

thanks. i landed up supporting the door and then putting aluminum angle in the groove and pop riveting from the outside. i also added square tubing in the wall and bolted it through. i believe that it is well braced and should be fine.
