electric jack

My electric jack just stopped working, I have the camper lugged in and still nothing from the lift. Has anyone had a problem w/ maybe the switch going bad or anything? I saw no blown fuses anywhere either. It never smelled or started working strangely so I don't think it's the motor (as in burned up). I guess I will have to see if I'm getting power to the lift, have to buy a tester. Thanks for any help.

There should be an inline fuse in the wires at the hitch. I just had to replace mine because the old one was badly weathered. A small volt / ohm meter is a good investment when working on these problems. Home Depot sells them for around $15.

If you have a voltmeter stick a straight pin in the side of the wire leading to the jack motor and test for voltage from the pin to tongue ground. If you have voltage there it is either the switch or the motor. If no voltage the inline fuse to the jack is most likely blown.

I had already checked the fuse and it was good, I replaced it anyway and no go. Went and bought a tester and there is power to the switch. I put a new switch in and it was the switch. Problem now is the only 4 prong switch I found is only on/off so I can only raise it....hehe ...not funny. I'm looking for another switch.

Look up the jack manufacturer. Odds are they may just send you a switch. I sent my complete jack head in for service and no charge.

Good Luck

If you don't have one get or make a hand crank for emergencies. Take off the jack cover and the crank engages the shaft so you can jack without juice.
