Battery even plugged into electric

I have a 74 Argosy that is all original and in great condition. I have tested the electric system inside and so far all that isn't working is the fridge. The trailer sat in a barn for 6 years and I was given a few things to try on that problem. However, there is currently no battery in the unit. I know it takes a group 24 and plan on picking one up today, but My question is that I was told you have to have the battery even when you are hooked to electric to make everything work properly.

I do know that the AC kicks on, but I can't run it hooked up to my house because I keep blowing the breaker on my extension cord. But I was told the fridge and AC would be effected by no battery being hooked up.

Things seem to work without the battery but you are much better to have it. The battery smooths out the voltage from the converter to make a even voltage.

The fridge requires 12v to operate the control board and the AC thermostat does as well. However, if the converter were working properly it would supply 12v DC sufficient to power those without a battery. Also, be sure the 12v disconnect switch is not in the "Store" position.

Definitely with a battery in place these should all work. If your battery loses its charge and will not replenish, the converter is bad.

If you have the original fridge it has NO 12 volt hooked to it. It runs on either 110 volt or propane. The air conditioner needs to have a 30 amp outlet and may not work well with an extension cord. The battery only works the water pump and lights and exhaust fans. The original furnace and water heater also do not use 12 volt power.

The original furnace does use 12 volt power for the fan. The original refrigerator and original water heater do not use 12 volt power at all.

Good catch idroba, I wasn't thinking when I wrote about the furnace. Forgot about the 12 volt fan.

Thanks guys. I think my fridge problem may be I didn't leave it plugged in very long. Good to know all the information on the battery. I'm sort of learning as I go on this one.
