Yamaha 2800 vs the Yamaha 2400iSHC

Considering one of these units but really like the weight of the 2800. I realize it is louder than the 2400 but is it that noticable? I like the idea of having something that will handle to a/c in case it is needed. Would I be escorted out of the area for running the 2800?

Hi, I'm sure that someone out there has a Yamaha 2800; We have the Yamaha 2400. Mine has run my converter, refrigerator, TV, and my 11,000 BTU air condition all at once at high altitude. People with larger air conditioners say that they turn their refrigerators to propane.

I had a Yamaha 2400is not the 2400iSHC and it would not start a 12500 a/c. The HC will start an a/c. Is your's the 2400iSHC? I'm trying todecide if the 2800 is too noisey for camping.

I have Yamaha 2400 and able to run my 13,500 AC with out any problem did not have to switch my fridge to gas either. No other heavy hitters like microwave, hair dryer, toaster etc.

Zia, do you have the 2400Ishc? I had the 2400is and it would not start the a/c or the microwave. I am seriously looking at the 2400Ishc but I still have the 2800 in the back of my mind. Just don't know if it would be too loud.

I have a 2400isHC and it is designed to start a 13,500btu AC. If I understand the tech part of this correctly, the HC model designation is simply a capacitor addition that provides a brief added boost of power for that jolt of motor draw when first starting. Both 2400 units provide the same power overall.

My 2013 trailer has the 15,000 AC. Any chance the 2400 will run it?

You are correct. I've asked Yamaha about a capacitor upgrade for the 2400is, but they would rather sell new 2400isHC, (capatalists that they are!) I should think that someone smarter than I in electronics could figure out such a capacitor upgrade.
My 2400is is fine for the 13500 btu unit in the Airstream, but I have older 15000 btu units in our boat, and it just can't start them unless I supplement with my house batteries and inverter on 'load sharing'.

I have ruled out the Yamaha 2800 because of the noise. Although I really like the Honda 3000 the weight becomes an issue. Since I prefer running the genny on Propane the Yamaha 2400Ishc fits my needs the best. I believe, for the money, it's hard to beat.

I did purchase the Yamaha 2400iSHC. It will do more than I will need from a gen. My break-in was on gasoline. I got 8.8 hrs on a full tank of gasoline with a half load on the gen. I decided on this gen because I felt that it gave me the biggest bang for the money. Haven't tried the A/C with it yet.

I ran mine a few weeks ago for about three hours on propane- just to do it for some run time (it has been sitting) and the thing just started up easily. Although I have an 11K AC, it hardly misses a beat when I start up the AC. One thing about the 2400, note how it is basically the larger 2800 unit (171cc) engine pulling a lighter load.

Rod, I did notice the size of the motor and that was another reason I purchased it. I had a dealer tell me the unit was one of the better buys for a generator.

I have the Yamaha 3000 w/boost and it starts and works well with my trailering needs and the 15k a/c unit. I have decided to get the Easy Start for my a/c unit and then step down to a lighter gennie that I can lift into and out of my truck bed. I'm thinking of getting the 2400 thanks to all the above posts to this thread and some other threads about the Easy Start.
I'm hoping the 2400 will start and run my a/c with the Easy Start and provide enough power to let the converter do it's thing too> What do you guys think? Seems like a match to me and maybe power to spare.
