Silent generator on Airstream motorhome 36 1994

Hello,

I have a 1994 Classic MOHO with solar pannels. It is called Silent generators. When I read the user manual,it claims that it has a2Kwatts power and I can run continously appliances such as microwaves.

Is there a point that I do not get?

My coach battery is drained in 5 minutes...

My GM dealer tells me that the user manua must be wrong.

Your solar panel manual must have one to many zeros in its power output. IT must mean 500 watts,and not 5000. The solar panels would have to be 10 times bigger and you would need a tractor trailer to haul it around. 500 watts is per day of charging your batteries. So forget you microwave oven that will use at least 1000Watts and will kill your batteries in about30 minutes.

Phil,

Solar panels dating from 1994 are probably no longer functioning as intended. I just replaced an older system on an AS in TX and the panels were actually brown with very little voltage coming from them in full sun. You might have the same problem.

Replacing them with modern, polycrystalline panels at 100 watts /panel will give you an idea of the power capacity the new stuff has. It also has a lot to do with your battery capacity, wiring gauge and the type of charge controller that you have.

If you are planning to park for extended periods off the grid and don't want to be bothered by the noise of a generator, you might want to seriously investigate upgrading your system.
