help how do you clean your Fantastic Fans

Who gets up on their roof to get access to clean the Fantastic Fans ? From what I have seen and read you need to get up onto the roof to remove the lid . Apart from washing the roof from the ladder I have never tried to get up on the roof and neither do I want to . Any suggestions to stage a plank or whatever across the top , or sky hook. Really scary stuff up there if you don't know what you are doing

I remove the screws holding the bug screen on from the inside. Remove the screen, give it and the fan a good wipe down cleaning and reinstall.

Mine snap into place but I need to get up into the fan itself and clean it as well as the hood . I am a bit of a clean freak. Saw a video on you tube but the process involves getting up onto the roof .

Mine also looks like the snap in type. There is a small lip to grab to remove the screen but it does not seem to pull free. I am concerned that I will break the snaps or plastic screen surround if I pull any harder. Is there any trick to removing this or is it just brute force?

A little difficult but you can pull the screen down from the inside. Just keep gently prying all around the screen. Then clean away. Much easier to put back into place.

I know. I just did this last week. Screens and blades were covered in dust. It feels like it's going to snap but it just takes some pressure and it will start coming loose one clip at a time. I highly suggest putting newspaper down on the bed and table under your fan to catch the dust and bugs that will drop when you do this.

Wash the screens in a sink with soap and water, and I used a Clorox wipe (several actually) to clean off the blades and inside of the fan housing. They look brand new!

I take 2 tall stepladders, one stepladder on each side of the trailer, run a board from one rung to the other ladders rung (scaffold), making sure the board will hold my big, fat............... Or, you can put a brace in the middle, beween the roof (solid point) and board. It has worked thus far; I ain't fell or dented the roof, yet....if ya want to work from the top.

If working on one side, u can use shorter ladders, stretching the board between'em.

From the inside, remove the circular screen. Just pull the tab and work it out, I have not broken one yet. Then using something like a spray windex cleaner soak the blades with the solution and let it set for a few minutes. Then wipe top and bottom of the blades with numerous paper towels or a microfiber cloth washed out frequently. The screen cleans with the same Windex type spray and cloth, rinse under running water. The results will be like new and all done from the inside.

There is a set screw in the hub of the fan blades that can be loosened. IF you are lucky the fan blade assembly can be removed from the motor shaft. I don't know the hex screw size of the fan hub. It takes a longish Allen wrench to reach it. One of my blades would come off this way. The other would not budge. So, up to the roof I went to remove the motor / blade assembly.

The white ring can break when you unsnap it from the inside. We broke one of ours the last time we cleaned the fans. Probably the third time we have cleaned the fans.

Have not replaced it yet. We put some tape on it to hold it.

While I have not broken the screen yet, I see how possibly a little silicon or 303 on the screen connection tabs could be useful.

Cleaning the blades I have used small brushes, the kind one might use to wash a tube of one inch diameter and bend it 90 degrees so as to access the top of the blades. Always have the vacuum cleaner hose pulling the dust away as I brush.

Have never actually washed the blades in about 50,000 miles of AS travel.

The older fan blades are physically attached to the shaft, the newer fans have the screw which make is easy to remove the fan blade. I have a new fan but don't want to go thru the removal process of the old fan and motor. Make sure when on the roof you only step where the rivets are ie the frame braces.
