Door Light on a 69-wires

So the door light is the very last light I have to attach and complete after polishing, replacing all the running and lights and upgrading the converter. All else works as it should except this light. I pulled this fixture and it did work prior to removal. I have two wires, one black and one that is more of a brownish color-which is odd. I understand one is hot and one is ground. I've replaced the switches just inside the door that control a ceiling light, the scare light and this light. I've tested voltage to all switches and all three work-that is to say the other two work and the lights turn on as they should. I've even gone as far as to replace the interior workings of the fixture, crimped new connectors and tried various bulbs in case one was blown. I'm getting voltage to the wires when the switch is turned on and no voltage when it's turned off-bulb still does not turn on. It's a real mystery folks! I'm in the Twilight Zone over here in Cleveland, Ohio and I've fallen and I can't get up! Any bright ideas? I'm about to give up and start packin' to go out west and curse the light for the next month while we're on the road.

Did you check the bulb? I found out that the bulb in my outside light, had two bottom connectors, looked for all practical purposes like an 1157 bulb. So I replaced it...nothing. So then I got the tester out and that is when I detected the socket , in the ensuing "flash/boom," was 110v.NOT 12 Volt. The bulb looked like a 12v 1157 but was actually a similar appliance bulb (sewing machine.) This could be a similar set up for you.

ya, I tried a few bulbs to make sure-even pulled one directly from our ceiling fixture that is working. I believe it could be this ground wire but I can't be sure and I don't know how to test that or run a new one.

Update: Ran a new ground and fixed! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread-I really appreciate it. I've been doing a lot of electrical the last week: new converter, fuse block, battery disconnect, new running lights and this little door light was the last thing to do. Now I can pack and get the heck out of here!
