"74" Tradewind Galley Light Question

I have ordered 3 round LED lights to mount under the cabinet above the galley. They have two wires. There are 3 wires in the trailer for the light that was there. There is no wall switch for this light on the galley side.

I'm wondering if one of the switches right inside the door work this light. Can anyone with a similar trailer shed some light on these switches...I assume one is for the outside "scare" light. What is the correct way to run these 3 wires to 2? Two reds to red on light and white to black? Thanks for the assistance!

On my 73, the switch next to the door supplies power to the switch on the galley light fixture; then the switch on the galley light turns on/off the light. (kind of a "half/3-way" switch...cuz it doesn't work from the other direction).

So...you can choose to leave the galley switch on, and turn on/off the light from the door switch.

Thanks Chuck. I'm not reinstalling the original fixture but three LED warm white lights. These lights only have black and red wires...yet when I connect to ground and either of the trailer red wires the lights do not work. I must be missing something in the connections. Anyone else replace their original fixture with LED lights? Thanks!

Well, the source of the power is passing through those wires next to the door, so make sure those are jumpered together, and then check which of those three wires over the galley is hot.
My original is still in place (most everything else is torn out, at the moment), so I can take a look at it tomorrow and see what the original arrangement of wires is at the fixture.

The LED's may be polarity sensitive, check the voltage with a multimeter to see if you're going positive or negative. If you have voltage across one of the reds to the ground white wire then it should make the LED's work, you may just have to switch which wire you connect from the LED's to the positive and negative wires.
Was your galley right next to the door? If so this is probably why there isn't a separate switch in the galley area. Were there 3 wires in the hole in the switch location. If there wasn't another switch somewhere, then the original switch may have been a hi-low-off switch. It would have let you turn on one or 2 bulbs. Was the original fixture a 2 bulb fluorescent, if so this is probably the case.

Yes the original fixture was a 2 bulb florescent with its own on/off switch. The galley is opposite the door. There are two switches right next to the door...one with two posts and one with three posts. I would think that if I am getting power to one of the red wires above the galley it should light up the LED light. Since the original florescent had a switch, do the LED's need to be controlled by their own switch? I would think the rocker switch by the door would power the LED's regardless. Scratching my head on this one. I did try multiple LED's so it isn't the lights. Thanks!

So the switch on my 75 from by the door to the galley light was a 3 way switch I have installed a LED light bar under there at the moment it is only switched from the door mine had the 2 red wires coming from the switch by the door to the galley and the ground at the galley end. you will need to connect the switch at the door to make sure power is running to the light. OR remove the switch at the door but you will need to either find a new source of 12v power to work the lights in the galley cabinet or splice through 12v power from where the door switch is.

A DC multimeter is a must for troubleshooting issues like this as you can be chasing power and have a bad ground or any multitude of other issues.
